An organic light emitting display capable of controlling brightness responsive to a user request. The display includes a brightness controller for controlling the brightness of a display region. The brightness controller includes a first look up table for storing widths of emission control signals corresponding to the image data of one frame period and a second look up table for storing at least one outside input mode for changing the widths of the emission control signals responsive to the outside input modes. By forming virtual look up tables, it is possible to vary the outside input modes in response to a user request in order to change the brightness of the display region while saving memory. Controlling the brightness of the display region also allows reducing power consumption, preventing the eyes of a user from getting tired, and maintaining image contrast of the display region.

Organic light emitting display with user brightness control and method of driving the same

An organic light emitting display includes a brightness controller that restricts the total brightness of a pixel unit when the number of pixels that emit bright light is greater than a predetermined level.

Brightness controlled organic light emitting display and method of driving the same

An organic light emitting display capable of reducing power consumption and controlling brightness in response to the intensities of peripheral light. The organic light emitting display includes a data driver for supplying data signals to data lines, a scan driver for sequentially supplying scan signals to scan lines and sequentially supplying emission control signals to emission control lines, a display region including a plurality of pixels for receiving the data signals, the scan signals and the emission control signals to display images and a brightness controller for controlling the brightness of the display region. The brightness controller controls the brightness of the display region in response to the data of one frame and the intensities of peripheral light. This system reduces power consumption, controls the brightness of the display region in response to the intensities of the peripheral light and improves the contrast of the display region.

Organic light emitting display and method of driving the same

A light emitting display device for controlling brightness according to peripheral light brightness and emission amount of a display region. The light emitting display device includes a display region including a pixel adapted to emit light in response to data, scan, and emission control signals, a controller for controlling brightness of the display region, a scan driver for supplying the scan signal and controlling a signal width of the emission control signal according to a signal from the controller, a data driver for transmitting the data signal corresponding to video data, the data signal being corrected using a gamma correcting signal from the controller, and a power source supply unit for supplying power to the display region. The controller outputs the gamma correcting signal corresponding to peripheral light and controls an amount of current supplied to the display region according to a sum of the video data in one frame.

Light emitting display device and method of driving the same

A light emitting display including a pixel area having a plurality of pixels, a scan driver for outputting a scan signal for selecting a predetermined pixel among the plurality of pixels of the pixel area, and an emission control signal for allowing a current to flow in the selected pixels. The scan driver includes: a signal generator adapted to generate the scan signal and the emission control signal; a first buffer adapted to transmit the scan signal to the pixel area; and a second buffer adapted to transmit the emission control signal to the pixel area. In the scan driver, the second buffer is smaller than the first buffer. The size of the second buffer is decreased to decrease the size of the scan driver, and/or to decrease the size of the predetermined pixel to get a high definition.
