A perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) head is provided which records data in a PMR medium. The PMR head includes a main pole having an end portion disposed on an air bearing surface (ABS) opposed to the PMR medium and the other end portion; a return yoke spaced apart from the main pole; a sub-yoke starting from the other end portion of the main pole and extending away from the PMR medium, so as to magnetically connect the main pole with the return yoke; and a coil disposed to encircle the sub-yoke.

A perpendicular magnetic recording head and method of manufacturing the same are provided. The perpendicular magnetic recording head records or reads information on or from a perpendicular magnetic recording medium. The perpendicular magnetic recoding head includes a coil, a main pole, and a return pole. The coil serves as a source for generating a magnetic field. The main pole and the return pole constitute a magnetic path of the magnetic field. The main pole includes an end facing the perpendicular magnetic recording medium. The end includes a leading part serving as a front side and a trailing part serving as a rear side with respect to a movement direction of the perpendicular magnetic recording medium. Both edges of the trailing part are chamfered, and the leading part has a plane inclined with respect to an air-bearing surface (ABS). The return pole has an end spaced from the main pole, and the other end connected with the main pole.

Provided is a magnetic head including a perpendicular magnetic head to write information by a perpendicular magnetic writing method. The perpendicular magnetic head has a return pole, a writing pole having a predetermined distance from the return pole and including a first pole portion and a second pole portion that are separated from each other and a connection pole portion connecting the first and second pole portions, and an induction writing coil inducing the formation of a magnetic field on the writing pole. According to the provided perpendicular magnetic head, the effect of eddy current is reduced by improving the structure of the writing pole, thus the intensity of a magnetic field obtained in a high frequency band is similar to the intensity of a magnetic field obtained in a low frequency band and a large field gradient is obtained.

Provided is a vertical writing type magnetic head including a substrate, a bottom pole formed on the substrate, and a top pole aligned with and spaced a predetermined distance apart from the bottom pole, wherein the bottom pole has a narrower width than the top pole. The magnetic write head is constructed such that the width of a bottom pole is narrower than that of a top pole, thereby reducing extension of a magnetic field at sides of a top pole and effectively preventing erasure of information of an adjacent track due to the bottom pole overlapping the adjacent track when there is a constructional skew in a hard disk drive.
