Provided is a lithium secondary battery, and the lithium secondary battery of the present invention includes: a positive electrode including a first lithium-metal oxide including secondary particles formed by aggregating primary particles having a particle diameter of 2 μm or less and a second lithium-metal oxide including nickel and at least one or more metals selected from the group consisting of manganese (Mn) and cobalt (Co) and including particles having a primary particle diameter of 2 μm or more; a negative electrode; a separator interposed between the positive electrode and the negative electrode; and an electrolyte, wherein the electrolyte includes a lithium salt, a nonaqueous organic solvent, and a difluorophosphite compound containing at least one or more difluorophosphite groups.

Lithium secondary battery

A lithium secondary battery comprises a cathode, an anode, a separator and a nonaqueous electrolyte solution. The cathode includes a first cathode active material in which at least one of metals included in the first cathode material has a concentration gradient region between a central portion and a surface portion, and a second cathode active material having a single particle structure. The lithium secondary battery has improved life-span and penetration stability.

A cathode for a lithium secondary battery according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a cathode current collector, and a cathode active material layer on the cathode current collector. The cathode active material layer includes cathode active material particles. The cathode active material particles include first lithium metal oxide particles having a shape of a secondary particle in which a plurality of primary particles are aggregated, and second lithium metal oxide particles having a shape of a single particle. A closed pore ratio of the cathode active material layer is 5% or less.

The first and second cathode active material particles each includes at least two metals except from lithium, and an amount of nickel is the largest among those of the metals in each of the first and second cathode active material particles.

Lithium secondary battery and method of manufacturing the same

A lithium secondary battery includes a plurality of electrode cells, each of which includes a first electrode, a second electrode having a different polarity from that of the first electrode and a separation layer interposed between the first electrode and the second electrode, and at least one ion permeation barrier between neighboring ones of the electrode cells. The ion permeation barrier has an air permeability less than that of the separation layer.

A lithium secondary battery comprises a cathode active material including a first cathode active material particle having a concentration gradient region and a second cathode active material particle having a single particle structure, to obtain improved electrical performance and mechanical stability.
