The apparatus includes a receiver for receiving channel information of at least one mobile station that is selected as an active user by a base station, a judgment unit for judging whether it feeds back its own channel information using the channel information of the selected at least one mobile station, and a transmitter for transmitting the its own channel information to the base station according to judgment of the judgment unit.

Apparatus and method for downlink scheduling in a multi antenna wireless communication system

An apparatus and method for supporting Peer-to-Peer (P2P) communications in a broadband wireless communication system are provided. A frame used by the terminal in P2P communications includes a plurality of P2P contention channels overlapping with a region for cellular communications and at least one P2P dedicated channel allocated by a base station only for the P2P communications. The method includes establishing a P2P connection with a correspondent terminal through the at least one P2P dedicated channel, and exchanging P2P communication data with the correspondent terminal through at least one of the plurality of P2P contention channels.

A handover apparatus and method in a communication system having a macro BS and a plurality of micro BSs in one cell are provided. A handover apparatus includes a macro BS for generating a plurality of messages, each messages respectively corresponds to one of a plurality of group areas defined by grouping service areas of the micro BSs and includes information about BSs to which MSs of the group area can perform handover. The macro BS also generates group area information indicating locations of the group areas, broadcasts the plurality of messages and the group area information to the cell, and manages handover of MSs based on the plurality of messages and the group area information.

A method and apparatus is provided for transmitting feedback information by each of user terminals in a communication system including the user terminals with different numbers of antennas. A multicast data packet is received from a base station through a downlink multicast transmission channel. If the multicast data packet has never been successfully decoded before, the multicast data packet is decoded and the success/failure in decoding the multicast data packet is determined. Upon the failure in decoding the multicast data packet, a NACK signal indicating the failure in decoding the multicast data packet is generated with sequences, the number of which is equal to the number of antennas of the user terminal. The NACK signal is transmitted to the base station through a shared feedback channel. If the user terminal has at least two antennas, sequences corresponding to the at least two antennas are orthogonal to each other and constitute sequence signals.

A method for transmitting and receiving data in a communication system. The method generates a frame for mapping each of multiple communication service modes of a base station providing the multiple communication service modes to a user terminal, in units of subframes each having a time interval and a frequency band. The method includes estimating a communication service mode supporting an optimal service among the multiple communication service modes provided by the base station supporting the multiple communication service modes, and sending to the base station a random access message for access to the base station over a shared channel.

A method and system for using frequency resources in a communication system are provided. In the method and system, a total frequency band is divided into at least two frequency subbands and there is a guard interval between frequency subbands. A first frequency subband includes a TDD UL frequency subband and a TDD DL frequency subband. A second frequency subband includes an FDD UL frequency subband.
