A method includes logically partitioning an antenna panel of a base station into multiple subpanels. The method also includes identifying multiple user groups for multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) spatial multiplexing, each user group comprising one or more user equipments (UEs). The method also includes assigning the user groups to the subpanels. The method also includes transmitting to the UEs via the subpanels, wherein each user group is served by one subpanel of the multiple subpanels.

Group partitioning in a multi-user MIMO system

A hybrid MIMO system comprises N digital transceiver chains and N analog beamformers, each coupled to one of the digital transceiver chains and comprising M analog transmitter (TX) chains and M analog receiver (RX) chains. One of the analog RX chains is an RX reference node and one of the analog TX chains is a TX reference node. A processor is coupled to a calibration transceiver, the transceiver chains, and the beamformers. For each beamformer the processor measures, using the corresponding transceiver chain and the calibration transceiver, TX and RX phase responses and TX and RX magnitude responses of the TX and RX reference nodes, respectively, determines a reciprocity calibration based on a phase difference between the TX and RX phase responses and a magnitude difference between the TX and RX magnitude responses, and applies the reciprocity calibration to stored beam definitions to correct for the phase and magnitude differences.

Methods and apparatuses for transmitting and receiving measurement reference signal (MRS) configurations in a wireless communication system. A method includes transmitting to a user equipment (UE), or receiving from a base station, information on MRS configurations that include information on an identity of an MRS, information on a set of large-scale channel properties associated with a quasi co-location (QCL) relationship for a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) of a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH), and information on a bandwidth for the MRS. The method further includes transmitting to the UE, or receiving from a base station, downlink control information (DCI) scheduling the PDSCH and indicating an MRS configuration for the PDSCH. The set of large-scale channel properties include, based on type, one or more of doppler shift, doppler spread, average delay, and delay spread.

Method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving reference signals in wireless communication

Network-assisted device discovery includes initiating the D2D network-assisted device discovery of a receiving UE to enable a target UE and the receiving UE to establish a D2D communication. A discovery feasibility measurement is performed to determine whether a D2D communication between the target UE and the receiving UE is feasible. A discovery setup message is transmitted and a discovery report is received from the target UE.

A UE in a wireless communication system is provided. The UE comprises a transceiver configured to receive, from a BS, a SS/PBCH block including the PBCH using a first frequency location (GSCN-Current) over downlink channels, GSCN-Current being based on a set of predefined synchronization rasters that is determined by a global synchronization channel number (GSCN). The UE further comprises a processor operably connected to the transceiver, the processor configured to determine the SS/PBCH block, identify content of a PBCH included in the determined SS/PBCH block, determine a configuration for at least one of the SS/PBCH block that is associated with a PDCCH including scheduling information for RMSI on the GSCN-Current or the SS/PBCH block that is not associated with the PDCCH including the scheduling information for the RMSI on the GSCN-Current.

Method and apparatus for SS/PBCH block frequency location indication

A base station includes a controller configured to configure an MRS resource set comprising a group of MRS resources, each MRS resource comprising a set of MRS antenna ports. If at least two MRS antenna ports belong to a same MRS resource, then the at least two MRS antenna ports are quasi co-located with respect to a first set of QCL parameters, else if the at least two MRS antenna ports belong to a same MRS resource set, then the at least two MRS antenna ports are quasi co-located with respect to a second set of QCL parameters, and else the at least two MRS antenna ports are not quasi co-located with respect to either the first set or the second set of QCL parameters. The MRS is a CSI-RS for estimating a CSI and at least one of the first set and the second set of QCL parameters.

The method includes initiating the D2D network-assisted device discovery of a receiving UE to enable a target UE and the receiving UE to establish a D2D communication. The method also includes performing a discovery feasibility measurement to determine whether a D2D communication between the target UE and the receiving UE is feasible. The method further includes transmitting a discovery setup message and receiving a discovery report from the target UE.

A method includes determining, at a first eNodeB (eNB) associated with a first cell of a network, that a first user equipment (UE) is to engage in a device discovery process. The method also includes coordinating parameters of the device discovery process with a second eNB. The second eNB is associated with a second cell of the network and with a second UE. Provided are a method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving multi-user control channels through a data channel region in a wireless communication system using multiple antennas. Further provided is a definition of a new search space for control channel candidates. In the transmitting method, a base station forms control channels for a plurality of user equipment each of which is composed of at least one resource block, performs a mapping for the control channels by dividing a space of the same transmission region in a data channel region of a sub-frame, and then multiplexes the control channels with data channels in the data channel region of the sub-frame and to transmit the multiplexed control channels.
