A CRT includes an electron gun that includes a cathode adapted to emit thermal electrons, a first electrode and a second electrode adapted to form a triode portion together with the cathode, a plurality of focusing electrodes, an anode electrode and a subsidiary electrode arranged between the second electrode and a one of said plurality of focusing electrode adjacent to the second electrode. The subsidiary electrode is adapted to dynamically control an imaginary crossover point ofelectron beams emanating from the electron gun corresponding to landing locations ofthe electron beams on a phosphor screen of a panel in response to a voltage applied thereto.

An image display device includes a cathode ray tube. The cathode ray tube includes a panel with an inner phosphor screen, and a funnel connected to the panel with a cone portion mounting a deflection unit on the outer circumference thereof. A neck is connected to the funnel while mounting an electron gun therein. The interface between the cone portion and the neck is called a neck seal line, and the portion of the electron gun sealed to the neck called a gun sealing portion. When the distance between the panel and the neck seal line is indicated by A and the distance between the neck seal line and the gun sealing portion by B, the values of A and B satisfy the following conditions:0.31&#x3c;&#x3c;0.38 and79 mm&#x3c;&#x3c;95 mm.

An electron gun for a color CRT includes a triode unit including a cathode, a control electrode, and a screen electrode for emitting an electron beam, first and second auxiliary focusing electrodes sequentially installed coaxially with the triode unit, for forming auxiliary lenses, first and second focusing electrodes installed coaxially with the first and second electrodes, for forming a quadrupole lens, and a final acceleration electrode installed close to the second focusing electrode, for forming a main lens. In the electron gun, protruding portions having flat surfaces corresponding to opposite surfaces of the first and second focusing electrodes are formed on at least one of the opposite surfaces of the first and second focusing electrodes to change the profile of the electron beam by applying a dynamic focus voltage to the edge of electron beam passing holes formed in the opposite surfaces.

An electron gun for a color cathode ray tube includes cathodes, a control electrode, and a screen electrode, forming a triode, first, second, third, and fourth focusing electrodes, sequentially arranged relative to the screen electrode and forming at least one first quadrupole lens, fifth and sixth focusing electrodes, adjacent to the fourth focusing electrode and forming at least one second quadrupole lens, and a final accelerating electrode, adjacent to the sixth focusing electrode and forming a main lens.

An electrode unit of an electron gun for a cathode ray tube including an outer rim electrode having a large-diameter electron beam passing hole through which three electron beams pass, and an inner electrode installed within the outer rim electrode and having a central electron beam passing hole disposed at its center and side electron beam passing holes disposed at opposite sides of the central electron beam passing hole. The side electron beam passing holes each have first and second curved sides along the sides closest to the central electron beam passing hole and opposite those sides, and linear portions connecting the first and second curved portions. The vertical and horizontal dimensions of the side electron beam passing holes are equal to each other.
