A liquid crystal display device is disclosed. In one embodiment, the device includes: a panel having a first substrate and a second substrate with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween, and a first polarizing plate and a second polarizing plate, respectively, attached on the exterior surfaces of the first substrate and the second substrate. The device may further include a driving chip installed in a boundary of the first substrate at the opposite surface of the first substrate onto which the first polarizing plate is attached, wherein the first polarizing plate covers the boundary of the first substrate and has a cut portion corresponding to the first substrate in which the driving chip is installed.

One or more embodiments of a backlight assembly include a light guide plate (LGP), a light source module and an optical sheet. The LGP includes a side surface and an upper surface. The light source module includes a power-transmitting member and a plurality of point light sources disposed on the power-transmitting member. A side portion of the power-transmitting member is disposed on a peripheral portion of the upper surface adjacent to the side surface and a light-exiting surface of the point light sources facing the side surface to be adjacent to the side surface. The optical sheet is disposed on the upper surface. A portion of the optical sheet is disposed between a corner portion of the upper surface and the power-transmitting member adjacent to the light-exiting surface. The amount of the light absorbed by a reflective member may be decreased to improve the efficiency of the light.

Backlight assembly and display device having the same

A backlight assembly includes a light source, a light-guiding plate and a diffusion sheet that includes a first bead layer on a lower surface of the diffusion sheet facing the light-guiding plate, and a second bead layer on an upper surface of the diffusion sheet. To improve image display quality, the hardness of the beads of the first bead layer facing the light guide plate are equal to or less than that of the light guide plate to prevent scratching of the light guide plate.

A light guiding plate to enhance uniformity of brightness and a backlight assembly and a display device having the same in one or more embodiments. In one embodiment, the light guiding plate includes a plurality of the linear shaped prisms on a back surface thereof, and the linear shaped prisms are omitted partially at the incident portion of the light guiding plate such that a non-prism area, connection area, and prism area are formed in stated order from the incident portion end on the back surface of the light guiding plate. Therefore, the display device having the light guiding plate is adapted to increase a uniformity of brightness of the edge type backlight, and the display quality can be improved.

A printed circuit board (PCB) includes a base substrate, an electrical wiring, a dummy pad and a thermally conductive adhesion member. The base substrate includes a light-emitting diode (LED) mounted on a first surface of the base substrate. The electrical wiring is electrically connected to the LED. The dummy pad is formed on the first surface to be connected to the electrical wiring. The thermally conductive adhesion member is attached to a second surface of the base substrate. Therefore, superior heat radiation may be obtained, thereby reducing or preventing damage to the LED and the LCD device using the LED by radiating the heat from the LED used as a light source.

A light source module includes a power supply plate, a light emitting chip, and a body mold. Also, a sub mold part for receiving the sub LCD panel comprises a black-colored material so as to prevent reflection of the light. Accordingly, thickness and power consumption of the backlight assembly may be reduced and display quality may be also improved by preventing leakage of the light at ends of the sub LCD panel.

A diffusively reflective film includes a base film, a light reflection layer and a light diffusion layer. The base film is flexible. The light reflection layer is disposed on the base film. The light reflection film reflects a first light. The light diffusion layer is disposed on the light reflection layer. The light diffusion layer diffuses the first light to form a second light. The diffusively reflective film may be bent to cover the light guide plate without being broken so as to increase the amount of light. Thus, a display quality is enhanced. Further, the diffusively reflective film covers the first side face, the second side face and the first face of light guide plate at once. Thus, productivity is enhanced and its manufacturing cost is reduced.

A liquid crystal display according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a liquid crystal panel assembly comprising a plurality of first field-generating electrodes, a second field-generating electrode facing the first field-generating electrodes, a liquid crystal layer disposed between the first field-generating electrodes and the second field-generating electrode, and red, green, and blue color filters disposed at positions corresponding to the first field-generating electrodes; and a light source providing light to the liquid crystal panel assembly, wherein the light source emits a light comprising a red component having a central wavelength of about 620-680 nm and a half amplitude of about 25-70 nm, a green component having a central wavelength of about 525-545 nm and a half amplitude of about 20-50 nm, and a blue component having a central wavelength of about 430-480 nm and a half amplitude of about 25-70 nm.

Liquid crystal display

A light-emitting module includes a light guiding body, a light-emitting unit and a fluorescent unit. The light-guiding unit has a groove. The light-emitting unit is disposed in a portion of the groove and emits a first light. The fluorescent unit is disposed in a remaining portion of the groove, receives the first light and emits a second light having a different wavelength range than the first light. The fluorescent unit emits the second light to an inner side surface of the groove. Therefore, loss of the first and second light is reduced and light-using efficiency of the light-emitting module is increased. Furthermore, a power consumption of a display device is significantly reduced.

An apparatus for dual display includes a light unit providing a light and a display panel. The display panel includes a transmissive pixel transmitting the light from the light unit and a reflective pixel reflecting the light from the light unit. The display panel displays a first image on one side of the light unit by using the light transmitted by the transmissive pixel, and displays a second image on an opposite side of the light unit by using the light reflected by the reflective pixel. The display panel includes a first substrate, a second substrate combined with the first substrate and disposed adjacent to the light unit, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and the second substrates. The display panel further includes a reflective layer formed on the first substrate corresponding to the reflective pixel. Therefore, a total thickness of the apparatus for dual display can be reduced considerably by using the light unit as a second display screen.

Dual display apparatus

A backlight assembly includes a light providing unit, an optical sheet, and a mold frame. The light providing unit generates light. The optical sheet has a main body disposed on the light providing unit and a sheet-guiding portion protruding outward from the main body. The mold frame has a frame shape to receive the light providing unit and the optical sheet and includes a sheet-guiding recess and a securing protrusion adjacent to at least one side of the sheet-guiding recess and protruding with respect to an upper surface of the optical sheet to prevent misalignment of the optical sheet. The sheet-guiding recess receives the sheet-guiding portion.
