Techniques are provided for determining and processing uplink listen before talk (LBT) failures, including the determination of a consistent and systematic LBT failure associated with uplink transmissions in new radio (NR) operating over unlicensed spectrum. For example, a user equipment (UE) identifies a plurality of transmission occasions to be performed by the UE over the unlicensed spectrum. The UE further performs a plurality of listen before talk (LBT) procedures associated with respective ones of the plurality of transmission occasions to be performed by the UE, and tracks a number of LBT failures during the performance of the plurality of LBT procedures, wherein a LBT failure occurs due to a channel used for the associated LBT procedure being busy or when an LBT backoff is still running from a previous LBT failure. The UE further implements a recovery procedure in response to the LBT failures exceeding a predetermined threshold within a predetermined time period.

Apparatus and method of handling uplink listen before talk (LBT) failures for new radio (NR) systems operating on unlicensed spectrum

A computer-readable storage medium stores instructions for execution by one or more processors of a UE. The instructions configure the UE for small data transmission (SDT) in a 5G NR network and cause the UE to perform operations comprising detecting while in an RRC_Inactive state, a radio link failure during a first SDT of UL data to a base station. A secure key for a second SDT is generated based on the radio link failure. A configuration message including an indication of the second SDT is transmitted to the base station. A response message including a UL grant is received from the base station. The UL data is encoded for the second SDT using the secure key. The second SDT is performed using the UL grant while the UE is in the RRC_Inactive state.

Using a secondary TDD configuration, data on a secondary component carrier is received in a second frequency band different from the first frequency band. A Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request (HARQ) for data received on the secondary component carrier is transmitted using a supplemental TDD configuration. A transmission or retransmission on the secondary component carrier uses a supplemental TDD configuration as well. The supplemental TDD configuration is different from the secondary TDD configuration. Furthermore, an uplink supplemental configuration may be different from a downlink supplemental configuration.

An approach is described for a user equipment (UE) configured for a new radio (NR) system with unlicensed spectrum. The UE includes processor circuitry that performs a first channel load measurement at a first frequency of a serving cell and a second channel load measurement at a second frequency of a neighbor cell and associates a report with the first channel load measurement and the second channel load measurement. At least one of the first frequency and the second frequency is in the unlicensed spectrum. Methods and systems are provided to indicate assistance information for radio access technologies to support interface selection for New Radio (NR) Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) processes. An upper layer entity exchanges information with lower layer entity while the upper layer can continue to use the existing interface for V2X transmission until it is not able to use the current interface. The upper layer can be a V2X layer and the lower layer can be an Access Stratum (AS) layer. The upper layer can request availability information from the lower layer for other applicable interfaces. The upper layer then instructs the lower layer to provide assistance information for one or more applicable interface(s), depending on whether mapped to the ongoing service. In providing availability information, the lower layer can continuously measure criteria, such as channel conditions, to determine the availability of relevant interfaces and indicate the availability information to the upper layer.
