A liquid crystal display according to an exemplary embodiment of the present system and method includes a first insulation substrate, a thin film transistor disposed on the first insulation substrate, a pixel electrode connected to the thin film transistor, a protrusion disposed on the pixel electrode, a second insulation substrate facing the first insulation substrate, a common electrode disposed on the second insulation substrate, and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the pixel electrode and the common electrode, wherein one pixel includes a thin film transistor formation region where the thin film transistor is disposed and a display area where the pixel electrode is disposed, and the protrusion is disposed to overlay at least a portion of edges of the display area.

Liquid crystal display

A liquid crystal display includes a substrate, a pixel electrode disposed on the substrate and including a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode, and a liquid crystal layer disposed on the first subpixel electrode and the second subpixel electrode. A first insulating layer is disposed between the substrate and the first subpixel electrode. A second insulating layer is disposed between the second subpixel electrode and the liquid crystal layer. A common electrode is disposed on the liquid crystal layer. The first subpixel electrode is disposed farther from the substrate than the second subpixel electrode, and the first subpixel electrode and the second subpixel electrode have facing edges which are connected with each other.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device includes a first row including first, second, and third first-color pixels; a second row including fourth, fifth, and sixth first-color pixels; and a third row including seventh, eighth, and ninth first-color pixels. The first, fourth, and seventh first-color pixels are aligned. The second, fifth, and eighth first-color pixels are aligned. The third, sixth, and ninth first-color pixels are aligned. The second first-color pixel is disposed between the first and third first-color pixels. Each pixel electrode of the first, third, fifth, seventh, and ninth first-color pixels may receive a high voltage for a gray level. Each pixel electrode of the second, fourth, sixth, and eighth first-color pixels may receive a low voltage for a gray level lower than the high voltage for a gray level. Liquid crystal molecules in each pixel have two domain directions.

A liquid-crystal display device includes: a substrate on which a plurality of pixels is defined, wherein each of the pixels includes an active area where transmittance of light is controlled; an organic layer disposed on the substrate; and a pixel electrode disposed on the organic layer. The active area comprises a first area, a second area and a third area, the second and third areas are connected to the first area on both sides thereof, respectively, when viewed from a top, and the organic layer is disposed only in the first area.

Liquid-crystal display device with reduced brightness difference between front and sides

A liquid crystal display includes: first and second thin film transistors and a compensation transistor formed on a first insulation substrate; a first gray subpixel electrode connected to a drain electrode of the first thin film transistor; a second gray subpixel electrode connected to a drain electrode of the compensation transistor and a drain electrode of the second thin film transistor; and first and second reference voltage lines overlapping at least one of the second gray subpixel electrode and the first gray subpixel electrode, wherein a pixel area occupied by the first gray subpixel electrode and the second gray subpixel electrode is extended in a first direction, the first and second reference voltage lines are extended in a second direction, which is substantially perpendicular to the first direction, to overlap the pixel area, and one of the first and second reference voltage lines is connected to a source electrode of the compensation transistor.

A liquid crystal display device includes first and second substrates facing each other and including pixels, a pixel electrode disposed on the first substrate to be provided in each of the pixels, and a common electrode disposed on the second substrate, where the pixel electrode includes first unit electrodes, each of the first unit electrodes includes four domains, which are arranged in two rows in a first direction and two columns in a second direction, the four domains include first, second, third, and fourth domains of a corresponding first unit electrode, each of the first unit electrodes further includes a first slit, which is an opening defined along boundaries between the first through fourth domains, and the common electrode includes second slits, which are openings defined along outer sides of each of the first unit electrodes.

A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate including pixels, a gate line disposed on the first substrate, data lines disposed on the first substrate, a first reference voltage line and a second reference voltage line respectively disposed on the first substrate and applying a first reference voltage and a second reference voltage having different polarities from each other, a pixel electrode disposed in one pixel area and including a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode, where a first pixel column may overlap the first reference voltage line and the second reference voltage line, a second pixel column adjacent to the first pixel column may not overlap the first reference voltage line and the second reference voltage line, and a first width of the pixel electrode of the first pixel column may be different from a second width of the pixel electrode of the second pixel column.

A display device includes a gate line and a data line crossing the gate line. The display device further includes a first switching element and a second switching element each connected to the gate line and the data line. The display device further includes a first sub-pixel electrode and a second sub-pixel electrode connected to the first switching element and the second switching element, respectively. The display device further includes a reference voltage line for transmitting a reference voltage, a first portion of the first reference voltage line overlapping a first edge of the first sub-pixel electrode, a second portion of the first reference voltage line overlapping a second edge of the first sub-pixel electrode opposite the first edge of the first sub-pixel electrode. The display device further includes a third switching element connected to the gate line, the first sub-pixel electrode, and the reference voltage line.

A liquid crystal display panel includes a first gate line and a second gate line extending in a first direction, a first data line and a second data line extending in a second direction, a pixel region surrounded by the first and second gate lines and the first and second data lines, and a first sub pixel electrode and a second sub pixel electrode disposed in the pixel region, wherein the first sub pixel electrode includes a first pattern section and a second pattern section symmetrical with each other about the second direction serving as an axis, wherein the second sub pixel electrode includes a third pattern section having a same shape as that of either the first pattern section or the second pattern section, and a fourth pattern section having a shape different from those of both the first pattern section and the second pattern section, wherein the first sub pixel electrode and the second sub pixel electrode are electrically interconnected.

Liquid crystal display panel

A liquid crystal display includes a first panel including a first substrate, a first electrode which is disposed on the first substrate and which includes a stem unit including a horizontal stem and a vertical stem dividing a pixel into domains, a branch unit including branch electrodes and extending from at least one stem of the stem unit in one direction, and an external bundling electrode unit connected to an end of at least one of the branch electrodes and disposed along an edge of the pixel, a first slit pattern which is defined in the branch unit, a second slit pattern which contacts the vertical stem and is disposed parallel to the horizontal stem, a third slit pattern which contacts the horizontal stem and is disposed parallel to the vertical stem, and a protrusion unit which is disposed on an outer circumference of the external bundling electrode unit.

A liquid crystal display includes a pixel electrode which includes a first subpixel electrode and a second subpixel electrode, a first insulating substrate and a second insulating substrate which faces the first insulating substrate, a common electrode which overlaps the pixel region, where the first subpixel electrode includes a first main unit electrode and a first sub unit electrode which is electrically connected to the first main unit electrode and smaller in area than the first main unit electrode, the second subpixel electrode includes a second main unit electrode, and a first opening part which overlaps the first main unit electrode, a second opening part which overlaps the second main unit electrode, and a third opening part which overlaps the first sub unit electrode and has a different shape from those of the first opening part and the second opening part are defined in the common electrode.

Liquid crystal display having increased degree of freedom in design

A liquid crystal display includes: a first panel including a first electrode; a second panel including a second electrode; and a liquid crystal layer between the first and second panels. The first electrode includes: a central electrode disposed in a central region of a pixel; an outer electrodes extending along a side of the central electrode; and a connection electrode which connects the outer electrode and the central electrode. A slit pattern is defined in the first electrode around the central electrode, and a liquid crystal control pattern is defined in the first electrode in a corner region of the pixel. Horizontal and vertical incisions, which divide the first electrode into a plurality of domains, are defined in the second electrode, an end portion of the outer electrode is disposed to correspond to the corner region, and the end portion of the outer electrode extends farther than the central electrode.
