Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products, for presenting search query suggestions. In an aspect, query triggers in a resource are identified at a client device. For each query trigger identified in the resource, a rank score for the query trigger based on query trigger attributes is calculated at the client device. The query triggers are ranked at the client device based on the rank scores. Search query suggestions are generated at the client device from the query triggers identified in the resource. The search query suggestions include terms of the query triggers, expansion terms of the query triggers, and search query suggestions generated from templates applied to the terms of the query triggers and expansion terms of the query triggers. The search query suggestions are presented at the client device according to the rank of the corresponding query triggers.

Query suggestions from documents

Methods, and systems, including computer programs encoded on computer-readable storage mediums, including a method for providing a search display environment on an online resource in response to an indication that a search operation is to be performed using a content object selected from the online resource. The method includes displaying an online resource; receiving a first selection indication that one of the content objects has been selected; receiving a second selection indication that a search operation using the selected content object is to be performed; in response to receiving the second selection indication: displaying a search display environment on the online resource, the display of the online resource being subordinate to the display of the search display environment; receiving search results responsive to the search operation; and displaying the search results in the search display environment.

Providing a search display environment on an online resource

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for generating query recommendations. One method provides selecting one or more nodes of an object model that models a resource as a hierarchy of nodes, and determining that the selected nodes exhibit one or more predefined traits that are characteristic of boilerplate content, wherein boilerplate content comprises content that is repeated in multiple resources of a particular web site or content which is not relevant to the main content of a resource. A score associated with the selected nodes is adjusted responsive to determining that the selected nodes exhibit the predefined traits, and information is provided to a query recommendation engine, the information including textual content associated with the selected nodes, and the information identifying the adjusted score associated with the selected nodes.

Detection of boilerplate content

Methods, computer-readable media, and systems for suggesting a search engine to search for resources. Multiple search results determined by a first search engine as satisfying multiple first search queries are received and displayed in a user interface. That the search results received from the first engine do not satisfy an informational need of a user that input the search queries is determined. In response, a suggestion to provide a similar search query to a second search engine is displayed in the user interface.
