Battery for a media player device

A playback device is configured to: based on a room setting of the playback device, determine that the playback device is associated with a first room of a media playback system; operate in a first mode that is associated with a first user type and a first set of playback control options; determine that the room setting of the playback device has changed; determine that the playback device is no longer associated with the first room and is associated with a second room of the media playback system; transition to operating in a second mode; determine that the playback device is no longer associated with the second room and is associated with the first room; transition to operating in the first mode; receive a playback command; determine that the playback command corresponds to a playback control option within the first set; and execute the playback command.

Operation modes, audio layering, and dedicated controls for targeted audio experiences

Examples described herein relate to transitioning a playback session between portable playback devices such as 'smart' headphones, earbuds, and handheld speakers with playback devices of a zone-based media playback system. Exemplary techniques facilitate continuity of playback when transitioning between locations (e.g., from at home to on-the-go or vice versa) or between listening paradigms (e.g., personal or out-loud playback of audio content). An example implementation includes detecting a swap trigger, determining the source playback device(s) and target playback device(s), and performing a playback session swap between the source playback device(s) and target playback device(s).

An example playback device is configured to: (i) determine given audio content that is to be played back by the playback device; (ii) identify at least one frequency range in the given audio content; (iii) for each identified frequency range in the given audio content, determine a respective lighting behavior that is to be produced, by a lighting device that is communicatively coupled with the playback device, during playback of the identified frequency range in the given audio content; (iv) play back the given audio content comprising the at least one identified frequency range; and (v) cause the lighting device to produce the determined lighting behavior in synchrony with playback of the identified frequency in the given audio content.

A grill cover that fits over or is positioned over high frequency acoustical regions and low frequency acoustical regions of a playback device. A portion of the grill cover that fits over or is positioned over a high frequency acoustical region has small area openings and a portion of the grill over a low frequency acoustical region has large area openings. In portions of the grill cover between the portions over high and low frequency acoustical regions, the openings may have an intermediate area to visually blur the differences between the portions of the grill covers. To further blur the differences, the differently sized openings may be interleaved.
