In accordance with the progress of a performance, a CPU 10 supplies word data indicative of words to be displayed. The CPU obtains a color change function passing coordinates which are specified by color change function data indicative of: a length of each of sections which are obtained by dividing a word display region to be displayed in accordance with the word data; and a time period required for changing a color of the section. In a Karaoke apparatus, a sound synthesizer reproduces an instrumental accompaniment of a song requested by a singer during the course of a vocal performance of the song by the singer. A detector successively detects start and end addresses of each block with progression of the reproduction of the instrumental accompaniment. A skip command is inputted by a skip switch when a certain block is being reproduced.
