A tapered roller bearing apparatus includes: an outer ring that includes an outer-ring raceway formed in an inner circumferential surface thereof; an inner ring which includes a large-diameter portion having a cylindrical portion with a substantially uniform outer diameter, a large rib portion having an outer circumferential surface and a guide surface continued to the outer circumferential surface, an inner-ring raceway, and a small-diameter cylindrical portion which are sequentially formed from one end to the other end, and are subjected to a heat treatment to have a surface-hardened layer; and a plurality of tapered rollers which are rollably disposed between the inner-ring raceway and the outer-ring raceway, a large-diameter end surface of the tapered roller being guided by the guide surface. An angle formed between the guide surface and the outer circumferential surface is obtuse.

Tapered roller bearing apparatus and hub unit

It is a cage that is formed of a resin and that holds balls serving as rolling elements. The cage includes an annular base portion, and a plurality of claw portions that are formed to be arranged at constant intervals on the circumference of the base portion and to protrude therefrom. A pocket for accommodating the ball is formed between each pair of adjacent ones of the claw portions. In the resin cage for a ball bearing, thinning recesses are formed in end partsof the claw portions and a rear surface of the base portion, respectively.

An outer ring shaft portion which is extended integrally from an end face of an outer ring of a constant velocity joint is fittingly inserted into an inside hole in a hub shaft of a wheel hub, so that the wheel hub and the constant velocity joint are coupled to each other. Internal splines and external splines are formed on an inner circumferential surface of the inside hole in the hub shaft and an outer circumferential surface of the outer ring shaft portion in such a manner as to mesh with each other. Side face splines are formed on end face of the hub shaft and an end face of the outer ring of the constant velocity joint. The wheel hub and the constant velocity joint are connected together in such a manner that torque can be transmitted therebetween.

Wheel supporting system

A wheel bearing apparatus includes a roller bearing, an inner shaft having an outer circumferential surface to which an inner ring of the roller bearing is installed, a coupler ring attached to an end portion of the inner shaft, and a caulked portion provided in an end portion of the inner shaft so as to fix the coupler ring and the roller bearing to the inner shaft so as to be immovable in an axial direction of the inner shaft. An outer diameter of the coupler ring is set smaller than a diameter of a shoulder portion of the inner ring. Alternatively, a protruding portion is provided in any one of opposing end surfaces of the coupler ring and the inner ring, whereby the coupler ring is arranged away from a seal member. Accordingly, it is possible to avoid an interference of the coupler ring with the seal member.

The rolling bearing unit includes an outer ring, an inner shaft disposed radially inward of the outer ring and having an inner ring fitting part on the outer peripheral surface on the one axial direction side, an inner ring fitted on the inner ring fitting part and having the shaft end on the one axial direction side crimped on the end face of the one axial direction side thereof, the inner ring having a step portion on the one axial direction side of the shoulder portion, and the step portion having an inclined surface shape the diameter of which expands in the other axial direction.

A method of manufacturing a double row rolling bearing device includes: providing a collet chuck having radially expandable separated parts and a tapered cone for radially expanding the separated parts; inserting the radially contracted collet chuck into a through hole before the double row rolling bearing is caulked to the hub shaft; caulking the cylindrical end of the hub shaft, with the separated parts being in contact with the end by radially expanding the collet chuck to prevent radially inward plastic deformation of the end; and contracting the collet chuck and extracting the collet chuck out of the hub shaft after the caulking.

Method of manufacturing rolling bearing device for wheel

A seal cover includes a cylindrical part which is fixed to an outer peripheral surface of an axle, a flange part which is opposed to an end surface in an axial direction of a housing, interposing a small clearance, and a deflector part which is opposed to an outer peripheral surface of the housing, interposing a small clearance. A passage through which muddy water or the like arrives at an annular clearance from an exterior of a vehicle can be formed of the small clearances, and the passage can be made long. Because an overlapping amount between the deflector part and the outer peripheral surface of the housing can be secured, the muddy water or the like which has been splashed by a wheel and flowing from an outer peripheral side of the housing to an inner peripheral side can be made difficult to intrude into a space.

Sealing structure of wheel supporting device

A rolling bearing assembly includes: an outer ring member; an inner ring member; a hub wheel formed with a flange at one axial end thereof; and a seal member for sealing a space between one axial end of the outer ring member and an inside surface of the flange, which axially opposes the one end of the outer ring member. The seal member includes: a cylindrical core fitted on the one axial end of the outer ring member and axially extended from the one end toward the flange; and an annular lip portion secured to the core and formed from an elastic material as axially extended from the core to the inside surface of the flange.
