In control apparatus for an internal combustion engine which includes a plurality of sensors for detecting parameters representing operation state of the engine to thereby output respective sensor signals, a crank angle sensor for generating a reference period signal in synchronism with rotation of the engine, a fuel injector for injecting fuel in the engine and an air-fuel ratio controller for determining a driving time of the fuel injector on the basis of one of the sensor signals and the reference period signal includes a filter for filtering the one sensor signal, a decision means for making decision as to normality or abnormality of the one sensor signal, and a means responsive to the decision of abnormality of the one sensor signal for thereby determining the driving time on the basis of another sensor signal and a means responsive to restoration of the one sensor signal to the normal state to thereby enable the determination of the injector driving time based on the one sensor signal to be resumed only after lapse of a first delay time from the restoration of the one sensor signal to the normal state. The driving time can be corrected by taking into account the temperature of the engine cooling water.

An idle revolution control device includes a water temperature sensor, a filter means and a control means which is constituted with a central processing unit and an interface connecting the water temperature sensor and the central processing unit. The filter means functions to provide a time constant which provide a high response speed for a temperature variation toward a high temperature side and a low response speed for a temperature variation toward a low temperature side and to pass an output signal of the water temperature sensor with such time constant a predetermined time after an engine starts.

A knock suppression system for an internal combustion engine in which the occurrence of knocks is suppressed by quickly providing a corresponding control signal previously stored in a memory and determined on the basis of operating conditions of the engine so that knocks can be effectively suppressed. As the operating conditions vary due to change in ignition timing, A/F ratio, combustion chamber temperature, inlet air temperature, humidity, or the like, the control signal is corrected and updated to compensate for the change in knock level. Also, even at the transient state of the engine where the factors introducing knocks largely vary, a correction control signal corresponding to the variations during the transient operation can be carried out, thereby effectively and quickly suppressing engine knocks.

Knock suppression system for internal combustion engine

A knocking control system for an I.C.E. includes a knock detector, and an apparatus for retarding the timing in response to the detection of knocking. This apparatus includes an arithmetic device and a memory map for storing retard values and accessed according to intake pressure (engine load) and r.p.m. values. The map value is read out by the arithmetic means is generally corrected on the basis of the present knock value, and the corrected retard value is used to control ignition and may be stored in the memory map to replace the read out value.
