This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for reducing PAPR in wireless communications. Some implementations more specifically relate to single-carrier frequency-division multiplexing (SC-FDM) techniques that can be used for wireless communications in wireless local area networks (WLANs). In some aspects, a wireless communication device may modulate a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) as a series of symbols in the time domain and may transform a subset of the time-domain symbols into a number (Q) of frequency-domain samples based on a Q-point discrete Fourier transform (DFT). The wireless communication device maps the Q frequency-domain samples to a number (N) of orthogonal subcarriers (representing an orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol), where N>Q, and transforms the N subcarriers into N time-domain samples, based on an inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT), for transmission over a wireless channel.

Single-carrier frequency-division multiplexing (SC-FDM) for wireless local area networks (WLANs)

This disclosure provides methods, components, devices and systems for physical layer (PHY) latency reduction. Some aspects more specifically relate to PHY protocol data unit (PPDU) designs that support inserting low-latency traffic into a transmission opportunity (TXOP) occupied by non-low-latency traffic. In some implementations, during a TXOP, an access point (AP) may output an aggregated PPDU (A-PPDU) that is aggregated in a time domain and includes an A-PPDU header and one or more A-PPDU subframes. The AP may obtain, from an application layer, a low-latency PPDU (LL-PPDU) subframe and may insert the LL-PPDU subframe in place of at least one of the one or more A-PPDU subframes. The AP may output the LL-PPDU subframe during the TXOP. A wireless station (STA) receiving the A-PPDU header and the one or more A-PPDU subframes may detect the presence of the LL-PPDU subframe and may receive and decode the LL-PPDU subframe.

Physical layer latency reduction

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for increasing carrier frequencies for wireless communications in wireless local area networks (WLANs). Some implementations more specifically relate to packet designs that support wireless communications on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz. In some aspects, a wireless communication device may map a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) to orthogonal subcarriers according to existing tone plans associated with carrier frequencies below 7 GHz and may up-clock the PPDU for transmission on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz (such as by increasing the frequency of a clock signal used to convert the PPDU between the frequency domain and the time domain). In some implementations, the PPDU may conform to an existing PPDU format designed for sub-7 GHz wireless communications. In some other implementations, the PPDU may conform to a 'green field' PPDU format optimized for wireless communications on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz.

60 GHz physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) formats

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for distributed transmission of short training fields in a power spectral density limited frequency band. In one aspect, a device receives a distributed resource unit (dRU) assignment for transmission of a dRU portion of a physical layer protocol data unit (PPDU); determines a spatial stream global cyclic shift delay (CSD) index for an short training field (STF) of the dRU portion of the PPDU; and transmits, based on the spatial stream global CSD index, the EHT of the dRU portion of the PPDU across a dRU spreading bandwidth associated with the dRU assignment using a tone plan and sequence corresponding to a regular resource unit (rRU) transmission mode.

Distributed transmission of short training fields

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems that support communicating using orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) according to a tone plan that supports 20 MHz subchannel puncturing within a wireless channel. In some aspects, a non-legacy tone plan may define a set of tones for a resource unit (RU) such that the RU does not overlap a 20 MHz subchannel boundary of the wireless channel. The locations of the set of tones in the non-legacy tone plan may be shifted relative to corresponding tones associated with a corresponding RU according to a legacy tone plan. One or more of the disclosed tone plans may enable puncturing of subchannels while making use of some RUs that would otherwise partially overlap a punctured subchannel in the legacy tone plan.

Tone plan for wireless communication

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for wireless communications over a 320 MHz bandwidth. Some implementations more specifically relate to signaling techniques for indicating the bandwidth of a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) transmitted in a secondary 160 MHz channel of the 320 MHz bandwidth. In some implementations, an access point (AP) may transmit an aggregated PPDU (A-PPDU) that includes a first sub-PPDU transmitted within a primary 160 MHz channel and a second sub-PPDU transmitted within a secondary 160 MHz channel. In such implementations, the first sub-PPDU may carry bandwidth information indicating the bandwidth of the first sub-PPDU within the primary 160 MHz channel and the second sub-PPDU may carry bandwidth information indicating the 320 MHz bandwidth.

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for increasing the transmit power of wireless communication devices operating on power spectral density (PSD)-limited wireless channels. Some implementations more specifically relate to LTF designs that support distributed transmissions. In some aspects, a transmitting device may obtain a sequence of values representing an LTF of a PPDU and may map the sequence of values to a number (N) of noncontiguous subcarrier indices of a plurality of subcarrier indices spanning a wireless channel according to a distributed tone plan. In some implementations, the transmitting device may modulate the sequence of values on N tones, representing a logical RU, and map the N tones to the N noncontiguous subcarrier indices, respectively. In some other implementations, the sequence of values may be obtained based on relative locations of the N noncontiguous subcarrier indices in the wireless channel.

Long training field (LTF) in distributed transmission

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatuses for data retransmissions in a wireless network. In some implementations, a wireless communication device may transmit a first data unit to a receiving device, may receive a first hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) feedback frame indicating that a portion of the first data unit was not successfully decoded by the receiving device, may retransmit the indicated portion of the first data unit to the receiving device in response to the first HARQ feedback frame, and may transmit a second data unit, different than the first data unit, to the receiving device concurrently with the retransmission of the indicated portion of the first data unit.

HARQ sequences in wireless networks

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for interpreting reserved bits and values associated with different releases of a wireless communication protocol. In some implementations, a wireless communication device may determine whether to terminate or continue reception of a physical layer protocol convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) if it detects a reserved bit in the physical layer preamble set to an unsupported value (such as a value different than what is defined by a version or release of the wireless communication protocol supported by the wireless communication device). In some other implementations, a wireless communication device may determine whether to terminate or continue reception of a PPDU if it detects a field in the physical layer preamble set to a reserved value (such as defined by a version or release of the wireless communication protocol supported by the wireless communication device).

Interpretation of reserved states in wireless packets

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a wireless device may perform a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure for a narrowband communication that provides time and frequency synchronization and/or scheduling information for an ultra-wideband (UWB) communication. The wireless device may transmit the narrowband communication in response to the LBT procedure being successful. The wireless device may transmit the UWB communication based at least in part on the time and frequency synchronization and/or scheduling information. Numerous other aspects are described.

Narrowband communication for ultra-wideband communication

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for generating a secure long training field (LTF). In some implementations, the secure LTF may include a randomized bit sequence that is difficult, if not impossible, to replicate by any device other than the transmitting device and the intended receiving device. For example, the transmitting device may use a block cipher or stream cipher to generate a pseudorandom bit sequence and may select a subset of bits of the pseudorandom bit sequence to be mapped to a sequence of modulation symbols representing an LTF symbol of the secure LTF. More specifically, each of the modulation symbols is mapped to a respective one of a number of subcarriers spanning a bandwidth of the secure LTF. The transmitting device may further transmit a physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) that includes the secure LTF to the receiving device.

Secure long training field (LTF)

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for increasing the transmit power of wireless communication devices operating on power spectral density (PSD)-limited wireless channels. Some implementations more specifically relate to short training field (STF) designs and signaling that support distributed transmissions. A transmitting device that transmits data on a distributed resource unit (dRU) may transmit an STF sequence over a spreading bandwidth of the dRU according to an existing STF tone plan. Each STA allocated a dRU for transmission in a trigger-based (TB) physical layer convergence protocol (PLCP) protocol data unit (PPDU) maps its STF sequence to one or more spatial streams and may apply one or more global cyclic shift delays (CSDs) to the STF sequence mapped to the one or more spatial streams, respectively. As such, different global CSDs may be assigned to different STAs so that each STA transmits its STF sequence with different amounts of delay.

Global cyclic shift delays for distributed transmissions

This disclosure provides methods, devices and systems for data parsing for resource unit (RU) aggregation. A wireless communication device (such as an access point (AP) or a station (STA)) may allocate a set of resource units (RUs) for a receiving device in a basic service set (BSS). The set of RUs may be associated with multiple bandwidth segments of a bandwidth allocation and may be non-contiguous or contiguous. The wireless communication device may determine a data parsing and encoding scheme for a set of information bits. In some implementations, the encoded bits may be distributed to the set of RUs based on a distance to tone mapping value or pilot tone location or both of the aggregated set of RUs different than respective values or pilot tone locations of the RUs in the aggregated set of RUs.

Some implementations more specifically relate to packet designs and numerologies that support wireless communications on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz. Some implementations more specifically relate to beamforming training operations that support wireless communications on carrier frequencies above 7 GHz. In some aspects, a beamforming initiator may initiate a beamforming training operation by transmitting a number (N) of beamforming training (BFT) packets in N TX beam directions, respectively, on a carrier frequency above 7 GHz. The beamforming responder receives one or more of the BFT packets and provides feedback to the beamforming initiator indicating the TX beam direction associated with the BFT packet having the highest received signal power. In some aspects, the beamforming responder may train its RX antennas for RX beamforming concurrently while the beamforming initiator trains its TX antennas. In some other aspects, the beamforming responder may train its RX antennas after the beamforming initiator trains its TX antennas.
