The printing apparatus includes a conveying unit that conveys a print medium; a print head that applies a color material on the print medium; an obtaining unit configured to obtain, in the case where a first surface of the print medium on which a first image is printed comes in contact with the conveying unit, information on a printing condition of the first surface that becomes a factor of changing a conveying speed of the print medium in the predetermined direction; and a control unit configured to control timing of applying a color material on a second surface of the print medium that is a surface at the opposite to the first surface according to the printing condition indicated by the information obtained by the obtaining unit.

A recording apparatus includes a recording head configured to scan a recording medium and record an image on the recording medium. The recording apparatus includes a recording buffer to store image data representing one pixel with a plurality of bits, a reading unit to read, from a storage area of the recording buffer, image data corresponding to a region including a boundary between two regions recorded on the recording medium in successive scanning and recording operations, a thinning unit to thin out image data based on a thinning rate corresponding to the image data read by the reading unit, a storage unit to store image data thinned out by the thinning unit in the storage area of the recording buffer, a quantization unit to perform quantization processing on the image data stored in the recording buffer when the image data is transferred to the recording head, and a recording unit to perform recording based on the image data quantized by the quantization unit.

Recording apparatus and method for controlling the recording apparatus

A battery residual capacity detection method capable of accurately detecting a battery residual capacity while minimizing reduction of throughput of a printing apparatus. In a printing apparatus, to which the method is applied, operable with at least a battery power source, during printing on a printing medium by reciprocate-scanning a printhead mounted on the printing apparatus, a battery voltage is detected, thereby a battery residual capacity is detected. It is determined whether or not the detected battery residual capacity is equal to or less than a predetermined threshold value. In accordance with the result of determination, driving of a carriage motor to reciprocate-scan the printhead and that of a conveyance motor to convey the printing medium are controlled so as to provide a time zone where loads on the carriage motor and the conveyance motor do not overlap, and the battery residual capacity is detected in the time zone where the loads do not overlap.
