A tailgate for opening/closing an opening of a vehicle includes an outer panel configured to form an outer surface of the tailgate, a garnish mounted on the outer panel and configured to form the outer surface of the tailgate, and a switch unit including at least a switch configured to instruct an opening operation of the tailgate. The switch unit is arranged in a space between the outer panel and the garnish, and mounted on the outer panel and the garnish.

Tailgate

A vehicle body rear structure that is able to rotatably support a tailgate at a left hinge attachment section of a rear outer panel with a left hinge member therebetween. The left hinge member is provided with: a vehicle-body-side hinge section affixed to the left hinge attachment section; and a door-side hinge section connected rotatably to the vehicle-body-side hinge section. A left rear combination lamp is provided to the rear outer panel in a manner so as to cover the vehicle-body-side hinge section from the outside of the vehicle body.

Vehicle body rear structure

A mounting structure for an automotive exterior member includes a mounting portion projecting from a rear side of a lower garnish so that a clip engaged by an outer panel of a tailgate is retained by the mounting portion. The mounting portion includes a base end portion on the side of the main body of the lower garnish and a projecting end portion on the side of the outer panel connected to the base end portion via a connecting portion which ruptures at the time of a crash at the lower garnish. The base end portion and the projecting portion are displaced along the projecting direction at the time of a crash. Therefore, a non-serious crash does not cause the base end portion to abut the outer panel or the projecting end portion to abut the main body of the lower garnish, and damage is limited to the deformation of the exterior member.

Mounting structure for an automotive exterior member

A garnish for a vehicle, which has a long form made of a resin material, and is attached to a member of the body of the vehicle. A recessed portion having a substantially U-shaped section is integrally formed at an edge of a main body of the garnish in the longitudinal direction thereof, and continuously formed along the length of the main body. Typically, the edge of the main body in the longitudinal direction is attached to the body of the vehicle substantially horizontally; and the recessed portion is formed at the upper edge of the main body of the garnish when the main body is attached to the body of the vehicle. Preferably, the recessed portion has a bottom wall, which has a thin part having a smaller thickness in comparison with the other parts of the recessed portion.

A rear structure of a vehicle body in which a tailgate is mounted on a rear part of the vehicle body so as to be openable and closable includes a hinge member having a hinge base fixed into a groove extending in the length of the vehicle body and a gate hinge rotatably connected to the hinge base and fixed to the tailgate; a hinge cover having a rear wall to cover an upper portion and a rear portion of the hinge base by closing a rear end of the groove, the rear wall covering the rear portion of the hinge base and having: a notch allowing the gate hinge to pass therethrough, and a rear shielding member fixed to the tailgate to cover an upper portion of the gate hinge, wherein the notch is covered with the rear shielding member in a state where the tailgate is closed.
