A liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes, in the given order: a first substrate; a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules; and a second substrate. The first substrate includes a first electrode, a second electrode closer to the liquid crystal layer than the first electrode is, and an insulating film between the first electrode and the second electrode. The second electrode is provided with openings including a first opening and a second opening adjacent to each other. The first opening and the second opening are independent of each other and are point-symmetrical to each other. The first opening and the second opening each have a shape including: curved portions that expand an opening periphery outward at the respective ends in the longitudinal direction; and paired protruding portions that allow the opening periphery to protrude partially in the lateral direction in the middle of the longitudinal direction. The liquid crystal molecules are aligned parallel to the first substrate in a no-voltage-applied state where no voltage is applied between the first electrode and the second electrode.

Liquid crystal display device having shaped openings

A technique is provided that reduces dullness of a potential provided to a line such as gate line on an active-matrix substrate to enable driving the line at high speed and, at the same time, reduces the size of the picture frame region. On an active-matrix substrate () are provided gate lines (G) and source lines. On the active-matrix substrate () are further provided: gate drivers () each including a plurality of switching elements, at least one of which is located in a pixel region, for supplying a scan signal to a gate line (G); and lines (L) each for supplying a control signal to the associated gate driver (). A control signal is supplied by a display control circuit () located outside the display region to the gate drivers () via the lines (L). In response to a control signal supplied, each gate driver () drives the gate line (G) to which it is connected.

Active-matrix substrate, display panel and display device including the same

Active matrix substrate, and display panel

Disclosed is a horizontal alignment mode liquid crystal display device that can achieve higher definition and improved response speed. The liquid crystal display device includes, in the given order: a first substrate; a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules; and a second substrate. The first substrate includes a first electrode, a second electrode positioned closer to the liquid crystal layer than the first electrode is, and an insulating film between the first and second electrodes. The second electrode is provided with an opening having a shape including a longitudinal-shaped portion and a pair of protrusions protruding to opposite sides from the longitudinal-shaped portion. The protrusions are provided at portions excluding both end portions in the longitudinal direction of the longitudinal-shaped portion and are located at corresponding positions. In a no-voltage-applied state, the liquid crystal molecules are aligned parallel to the first substrate, and in a plan view, the longitudinal direction of the longitudinal-shaped portion and an alignment azimuth of the liquid crystal molecules in the no-voltage-applied state are parallel or orthogonal to each other.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device includes an upper substrate and a lower substrate; and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the upper and lower substrates. The lower substrate includes a pixel electrode, a first auxiliary capacitance electrode, and a second auxiliary capacitance electrode for one pixel, and one or two auxiliary capacitance lines for one pixel line including pixels. The two auxiliary capacitive electrodes are electrically connected to different auxiliary capacitance lines. Each of the first auxiliary capacitance electrode and the second auxiliary capacitance electrode and the pixel electrode overlap each other in a plan view. The first auxiliary capacitance electrode and the second auxiliary capacitance electrode differ from each other in shape in a display region of each of the pixels. The shape of the first auxiliary capacitance electrode in a first pixel is identical to the shape of the second auxiliary capacitance electrode in a second pixel adjacent to the first pixel.

A liquid crystal display device includes, in the given order: a first substrate; a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules; and a second substrate; wherein the first substrate includes a first electrode, a second electrode positioned closer to the liquid crystal layer than the first electrode is, and an insulating film between the first electrode and the second electrode, the second electrode has an opening having a shape including an elliptical portion and/or a circular portion, in a no-voltage-applied state, where no voltage is applied between the first electrode and the second electrode, the liquid crystal molecules are aligned parallel to the first substrate, and in a plan view, the major axis of the elliptical portion is parallel or perpendicular to the alignment azimuth of the liquid crystal molecules in the no-voltage-applied state.

A liquid crystal display device including an upper substrate and a lower substrate; and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the upper and lower substrates, wherein the lower substrate includes a first electrode and a second electrode and a third electrode arranged in a layer different from the first electrode, the first electrode has multiple linear portions and an opening is provided between the linear portions, the second electrode and the third electrode are a pair of comb-shaped electrodes, each of the comb-shaped electrodes has a trunk portion and multiple branch portions branching from the trunk portion, at least one of the branch portions of the third electrode has a narrow portion which is narrowest and a projection portion which is wider than the narrow portion, one of angles on the upper side and on the opening side formed by a contour line of the opening on each of the left and right sides of the projection portion and the narrow portion of the branch portion of the third electrode in the opening is an obtuse angle or a right angle and the other is an acute angle or a right angle, and a length of the narrow portion on each side of the projection portion in the opening of the first electrode is specified.

An active matrix substrate is provided that includes: a plurality of source lines (data lines)S; a plurality of lines that intersect with the source linesS, and include at least a plurality of gate linesG; a gate driver (driving circuit)that includes a plurality of switching elements, and are connected to at least a part of the lines, so as to control potentials of the lines according to a control signal; and a plurality of pixel control elementsT that are provided in correspondence to a plurality of pixels that compose a display region, and are connected with the data linesS and the gate linesG, so as to control display of the corresponding pixels, respectively. Either the data linesS or the gate linesG are vertical lines while the others are horizontal lines, and intervals of the horizontal lines are irregular intervals. Active matrix substrate and display panel

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device capable of achieving a high contrast ratio, a wide viewing angle, and a high-speed response. The liquid crystal display device includes an upper substrate; a lower substrate; and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the upper substrate and the lower substrate. The lower substrate includes a first electrode, and a second electrode and a third electrode arranged in a layer different from the first electrode. The first electrode includes a trunk portion and multiple branch portions branching from the trunk portion and is provided with an opening between the branch portions. The second electrode and the third electrode constitute a pair of comb-shaped electrodes and each include a trunk portion and multiple branch portions branching from the trunk portion. The branch portions of the first electrode are each bent at a predetermined angle. The electrodes each have a predetermined configuration.

In the present invention, a liquid crystal display device capable of achieving a high contrast ratio and a wide viewing angle, and capable of achieving a high-speed response is provided. The liquid crystal display device in the present invention is configured such that, when viewed in a plan view, at least one contour line of a plurality of linear portions of a first electrode intersects with a branch portion of a second electrode and a branch portion of a third electrode adjacent to each other, a length of a part intersecting with the branch portion of the third electrode is longer than a length of a part intersecting with the branch portion of the second electrode, and a driving operation is performed such that a potential difference between the first electrode and the third electrode is equal to or greater than a potential difference between the first electrode and the second electrode.

The liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes: upper and lower substrates; and a horizontal alignment type liquid crystal layer, the lower substrate including electrodes, the electrodes including a first electrode, a second electrode present in a different layer from the first electrode, and a third electrode present in a different layer from the first electrode, the first electrode including a plurality of linear sections, the second electrode and the third electrode constituting a pair of comb electrodes, each of the comb electrodes including a trunk part and a plurality of branch parts diverging from the trunk part, at least one of the plurality of branch parts of the third electrode including a protruding part that makes the branch part partially wide, between two intersections with a plurality of linear sections of the first electrode in a plan view of the lower substrate.

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device capable of achieving a high response speed. The liquid crystal display device includes: an upper substrate and a lower substrate; and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the upper and lower substrates, the upper substrate including an electrode, the lower substrate including paired electrodes, the liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules that are aligned in parallel with the main surfaces of the upper and lower substrates with no voltage applied, the liquid crystal display device being configured to provide one of white display and black display by utilizing an electric field generated between the paired electrodes of the lower substrate to rotate the liquid crystal molecules in one direction in a plane parallel to the main surfaces, and the other of white display and black display by utilizing an electric field generated by the respective electrodes of the upper and lower substrates to rotate the liquid crystal molecules in the opposite direction from the one direction in the plane parallel to the main surfaces.

A liquid crystal display device includes: a first substrate; a second substrate; and a liquid crystal layer of a horizontal orientation type that is sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate. The first substrate includes a first electrode pair that applies a first horizontal electric field to the liquid crystal layer, an insulating layer provided on the first electrode pair, and a second electrode pair that is provided on the insulating layer and that applies a second horizontal electric field to the liquid crystal layer. The first electrode pair includes first and second linear electrodes provided with a gap therebetween. The second electrode pair includes third and fourth linear electrodes provided with a gap therebetween. In a plan view of the first substrate, the third and fourth linear electrodes extend in a direction perpendicular with respect to the first and second linear electrodes.

Liquid crystal display apparatus

The present invention provides a liquid crystal display device in a new display mode that is based on the horizontal alignment capable of giving a wide viewing angle and that can achieve high speed response. The liquid crystal display device includes: a first substrate that includes a pair of electrodes; a second substrate that includes a pixel electrode and a common electrode; and a liquid crystal layer that contains liquid crystal molecules aligned horizontally, at least one of the pair of electrodes including a first linear portion that extends in a first direction, at least one of the pixel electrode and the common electrode including a second linear portion that extends in a second direction intersecting the first direction, the liquid crystal molecules being aligned in a direction perpendicular or parallel to the first direction in a first display state in which voltage is applied between the pair of electrodes but voltage is not applied between the pixel electrode and the common electrode, the liquid crystal molecules being aligned in a direction different from the alignment direction of the first display state, in a second display state in which voltage is applied between the pair of electrodes and voltage is applied between the pixel electrode and the common electrode.
