A medical device is configured to be attached to a part of a circulation circuit of an extracorporeal circulation device and to be inserted with an insertion member for performing a test related to blood clotting, and includes a storage portion configured to store a blood, and a main body portion configured to drop the blood stored in the storage portion onto the insertion member. The stored blood is used as samples for testing and monitoring of blood conditions (e.g., clotting) during extracorporeal circulation.

An artificial lung in a circulation apparatus can be monitored and be maintained in a safe condition without manual assistance. As an extracorporeal circulation mode starts, it is determined first whether or not gas exchange of the artificial lung is carried out within a normal range, based on oxygen concentration which is detected by an oxygen sensor positioned at a downstream place in the artificial lung. If the gas exchange is carried out within the normal range, an estimated value for gas supply volume of a gas blender is maintained. When oxygen concentration exceeding the normal range is detected, the gas blender is controlled so as to revise the gas supply volume downward. In addition, when oxygen concentration falls below the normal range, the gas blender is controlled so as to revise the gas supply volume upward.

Circulation apparatus and method for controlling the same

A centrifugal pump for pumping blood includes a housingwith a housing main body, a blood inlet port, and a blood outlet port. A rotary bodyis rotatably accommodated inside the housing main body, and a support mechanismsupports the rotary body. The support mechanismis provided with a rod-like shaft member, and a first bearingand a second bearingwhich respectively and rotatably support end portions of the shaft member. The first bearingis provided with a protruding portionwhich protrudes in an eccentric manner with respect to a rotation center O when viewed from an upstream side of a blood flow, so that the protruding portion shields a counter-rotating, longitudinal side of the shaft member from exposure to the main flow of blood.

A centrifugal pump () includes a housing (), an impeller () that is rotatably disposed in the housing (), a shaft () that is provided at a center rotational axis of the impeller (), and bearings members () that respectively and pivotally support the shaft ends (). An elastic body () which is elastically deformable at least in an axial direction of the shaft () is provided between at least one of the bearings () and the housing () or at an intermediate portion of the shaft () in the axial direction. A tightening load exerted on the shaft and bearing members can be maintained in a predetermined range even when age-related deformation of the housing or other components occurs.
