A motorcycle includes a front part having a steering mechanism with which a front wheel is steered based on the manipulation of the steering of a steering handle, and a swing mechanism extending from either a body frame and an engine for vertically movably supporting the steering mechanism. The steering mechanism is connected to the swing mechanism via a lower spherical bearing and an upper spherical bearing.

The present invention provides a wire/pipe support device of a motorcycle that can possess a sufficient space for accommodating a wire/pipe without increasing the degree of forming of a vehicle body frame. A wire/pipe support device includes a groove-shaped engaging portion that is engaged with a main frame that constitutes a vehicle body frame of a motorcycle and has a lower surface thereof opened. A groove-shaped accommodating portion receives the wire/pipe thereon and has an upper surface thereof opened. The engaging portion is mounted on the vehicle body frame by engaging the engaging portion with the vehicle body frame from above. The wire/pipe is placed on the accommodating portion. The wire/pipe support device is pushed from above by a fuel tank directly or by way of a cushion member thus preventing the floating of the wire/pipe support device from the vehicle body frame and the rotation of the wire/pipe support device about the vehicle body frame.

A mounting configuration is provided for mounting an ABS unit on a base model motorcycle which permits a relatively large-sized and heavy ABS unit to be easily mounted on a vehicle body frame. A V-shaped engine is longitudinally mounted on the frame, and a rear wheel is supported on a rear swing arm which is pivotally supported on the frame by a pivot shaft, the rear wheel driven via a drive shaft. An ABS unit is arranged on one side of the vehicle body in a space below and to one side of the pivot shaft so as to avoid interference with the rear swing arm or the like, thus it is possible to easily mount the ABS unit on a base model. Further, by arranging exhaust pipe system parts on another side of the vehicle body, it is possible to obtain a proper lateral balance of the vehicle body.

To improve a swing arm support structure of a vehicle, thus making it possible to adjust a magnitude, timing, and the like of external force transmitted to a vehicle body frame. In a vehicle, in which a rear wheel is attached to a rear end of a swing arm made freely swingable with respect to a vehicle body frame, dogleg brackets are provided. The dogleg brackets include vehicle body frame coupling portions coupled to the vehicle body frame, and include engine support portions for supporting an engine. Further, the dogleg brackets are provided with swing arm support portions for supporting the swing arm which are provided apart and separately from the vehicle body frame coupling portions.

Swing arm support structure of vehicle

A motorcycle includes a rear swing arm which has upper and lower arms and an arm body. The upper and lower arms are vertically swingably attached to either a body frame or an engine via pivot shafts that are disposed in vertically spaced relation to each other and extend parallel to each other toward a rear wheel. The arm body is swingably connected to a rear end of the upper and lower arms via support shafts for supporting the rear wheel.

An engine support bracket for a motorcycle is formed as an L-shaped channel member that is horizontally mounted on a vehicle body frame. Mounting portions of an engine are mounted on the L-shaped channel member and are fastened to the L-shaped channel member using a bolt. With this arrangement, assembling of the engine onto the vehicle body frame can be completed with a simple operation, and hence, the operability in assembling the engine is enhanced. Further, as parts for connecting the engine to the vehicle body frame, only the L-shaped channel member need be provided. Thus, the number of parts is decreased thus also providing a simple structure. Further, a head of the bolt and a nut, which fix the engine to the vehicle body frame, do not appear on a side surface of the mounting portions of the engine. Hence, the appearance of the motorcycle is enhanced.

A brake caliper support structure and a brake caliper structure for a saddle-ride type all terrain vehicle can attain a reduction in size and weight of a disc brake and can scrape off mud and snow accumulated within a wheel. A distance from a point which represents the center of a front wheel to each of points which represent the axes of bolts located at the same positions as the caliper support portions or the first and second mounting portions of the caliper bracket is set longer than the distance from the point to a point which represents the center of a piston. A brake hose is to be prevented from undergoing an excessively large deflection during steering or during vehicular vibration.

A saddle ride type all-terrain vehicle includes left and right front wheels supported independently of each other on a vehicle body such that driving power is transmitted to said front wheels by way of a pair of left and right drive shafts extending from a driving source side. The degrees of freedom in the design of a layout structure of a power steering system for a vehicle are increased so that the auxiliary parts can be arranged around the power assisting actuator without the need for a special increase in the strength and in the stiffness of a body frame for installing the power steering system. The front wheels are steered by a power steering system supported by the body frame wherein the power steering system is provided with an actuator for assisting a steering force. One end of the actuator is installed to a first cross pipe laid over the left and right portions of the body frame. The arrangement is such so that a longitudinal direction of the actuator runs substantially in parallel with a center line of a chassis extending in a back-and-forth direction of the vehicle body.

Layout structure of power steering system for vehicle

If a steering damper is fixed to a top bridge, since the steering damper is comparatively heavy and the top bridge is on the steering side, steering inertia increases. An arrangement structure of the steering damper which does not greatly influence the steering inertia has been realized. A rotatable partition wall is provided in a hydraulic chamber of a steering damper to partition the inside into a right hydraulic chamber and a left hydraulic chamber. Both hydraulic chambers are in communication with each other by a liquid passage. A control valve is provided in an intermediate part of the passage and is switched to a lock or a throttle thereby a damping force zero status or a damping force generation status is set.

Saddle-ride type vehicle steering damper apparatus

A steering damper device attenuating the oscillations of the handlebar of a motorcycle during operation, and more particularly, a device capable of varying a damping force variable. The steering damping device prevents the adverse effect of oscillations of the handlebar that would otherwise occur when the load on the front wheel of the motorcycle becomes light. The device includes a rotary steering damper provided in a coaxial manner on a steering shaft. Either a damping force or zero damping force is produced by a variable valve arranged in the bypass passage communicating with a right liquid chamber and a left liquid chamber. The variable valve is controlled by a control device and generates a damping force in the steering damper only when the acceleration of the motorcycle as detected by the acceleration sensor exceeds a threshold value.

Steering damper device

In a steering damper utilizing hydraulic pressure, even if generation of a damping force is controlled in correspondence with an external force inputted to a handle upon external perturbations and the like, the damping force changes due to change in liquid temperature of working liquid. Accordingly, to precisely control the damping force, correction based on change in liquid temperature of the working liquid is required. However, to measure the change in liquid temperature of the working liquid, it is necessary to provide a particular measurement device requiring a complicated structure, which increases the number of parts and costs. Accordingly, the present invention has an object to provide a steering damper which can easily temperature-correct the damping force without such difficulty. A liquid chamber is provided in a main body of a steering damper. An inside of the liquid chamber is partitioned into a right liquid chamber and a left liquid chamber by a rotatable partition wall integral with a shaft coaxial with a steering shaft. Both liquid chambers are connected with each other by a liquid passage, and a control valve is provided in the middle of the passage such that the damping force is variable. A control device drive-controls the control valve in correspondence with a turning angle speed of the shaft and the partition wall, thereby controls the damping force, and corrects the damping force based on intake temperature information detected by an intake temperature sensor.

Steering damper apparatus

A power steering device includes a cylindrical holder coaxially arranged on a steering shaft, a cylindrical rotary cylinder coaxially and rotatably installed in the holder and forming two oil chambers spaced apart in a circumferential direction between it and an inner surface of the holder, and a spool changing-over member coaxially and rotatably inserted in the rotary cylinder and connected to the steering wheel. A differential mechanism is provided between the rotary cylinder and the spool changing-over member for integrally rotating the rotary cylinder and the spool changing-over member when a steering force applied to the steering shaft is low, and allowing a relative rotation between the rotary cylinder and the spool changing-over member when the steering force is larger than a predetermined value.

Power steering device

A steering damper for reducing the inertia of steering that is attached in a low position relative to the steering shaft. The upper portion of a steering shaft is fitted in the center of the rear of a top bridge as a fitting part and a lower screw part of a shaft is tightened in the fitting part and is integrated with the fitting part. The shaft is provided with a shaft main part having a small diameter extending in an axial direction of the steering shaft, when the shaft main part is made to pierce a turning shaft in the steering damper. A steering nut is attached to an upper screw part at the upper end and the upper screw part is tightened. The steering damper and the top bridge are fixed to the upper portion of the steering shaft by jointly fastening. Hereby, a steering nut heretofore provided under the steering damper can be omitted and a position in which the steering damper is attached can be lowered by the quantity. A rear portion of the liquid-operated steering damper is designed to fit into a space in the fuel tank so that it does not interfere with the front end of a fuel tank. The steering damper does not interfere with the capacity of the fuel tank.

Steering damper for saddle-type vehicle

To generate a damping force in a steering damper only upon an unintentionally caused handle action when it is truly necessary to restrain the turning of the handle, according to whether the cause of a handle action is intentional or unintentional. A rotation type steering damper is provided coaxially with a steering shaft, and the generation of a damping force or zero damping force is selected through a changeover by a variable valve provided in a bypass passage for communication between a right liquid chamber and a left liquid chamber of the steering damper. The changeover is controlled by a control device, which functions based on the direction of a moment exerted on the steering shaft detected by a moment sensor and the magnitude and direction of a rotational angular velocity concerning the turning of the steering shaft detected by a rotational angular velocity sensor, for controlling a damping force that is generated only when an unintentionally caused handle turning action opposite in direction to the moment is present and the rotational angular velocity has exceeded a predetermined threshold value.
