A magnetic core is obtained by winding or laminating at least one alloy ribbon and has excellent squareness characteristic and magnetic saturation characteristic in a high frequency region wherein the squareness ratio of the magnetic core is improved by restricting the surface roughness of the alloy ribbon to specific regions.

Thin strip cores wound by apparatus having a spool for winding a ribbon-like thin strip, a clamping device for clamping and moving the ribbon-like thin strip, a winding core driving device for causing the ribbon-like thin strip clamped by the clamping device to be wound in a prescribed length around a winding core, a cutting device for cutting the ribbon-like thin strip after the ribbon-like thin strip has been wound in the prescribed length around the winding core, a welding device for welding the trailing end of the wound thin strip cut off, a releasing device for releasing the connected wound thin strip, and a measuring device for taking the weight of wound thin strip released. A magnetic core comprises at least one layer of magnetic film composed of an amorphous alloy and an electrically insulating film made of polyimide. Powder materials having a property for alleviating mutual influence between the magnetic thin film and the insulating film during a heat treatment thereof are stuck to a surface of the magnetic film or the insulating film. The magnetic film and the electrically insulating film are alternately wound up in a predetermined shape with powder material interposed therebetween to thereby form a magnetic core.
