A projector with a detection function according to the present disclosure includes: a projection optical system that projects image light on a projection plane; an irradiation optical system that generates an irradiation beam on the basis of light obtained from a light source, and outputs the irradiation beam, in which the irradiation beam is used for detection of a detection object on the projection plane, and the detection object is configured to be detected; an imaging device that scattered light of the irradiation beam derived from the detection object enters; and an illumination control section that performs temporal light-quantity modulation of the light obtained from the light source to cause coherence of the irradiation beam to be reduced.

A projection display unit with a detection function includes a projection display section () and a detector (). The projection display section () includes a display light source. The display light source emits light used as illumination light, and projects an image onto a projection surface with the illumination light. The detector () includes a detection light source that emits detection light. The detector () detects an object on or near the projection surface, and outputs a power-saving instruction signal to the projection display section () in accordance with a detection state of the object. The power-saving instruction signal instructs a transition to a power-saving mode. The projection display section () turns off the display light source in response to the power-saving instruction signal.

Recording and reproducing apparatus for recording and reproducing information to and from a magneto-optical storage medium

An equalizer used for an optical reproducing apparatus performs an optimal equalizing operation in accordance with the spatial frequency without needing an electrical equalizer. The optical reproducing apparatus reproduces the reproducing data in the following manner. A detector is provided for receiving reflected light from a disc. The detector is divided into a plurality of light receiving areas by a line perpendicular to the light receiving direction corresponding to the disc track direction. Then, calculations are made on the outputs from the respective light receiving areas to specifically correct the spatial frequency characteristics. The calculated signal is then decoded.
