An image forming apparatus includes a fixing portion, a first acquisition processing portion, a first determination processing portion, and a restriction processing portion. The fixing portion is provided rotatably around a rotation shaft. The first acquisition processing portion acquires first temperature information regarding the temperature of the fixing portion at the end of a first image forming process of forming an image on a first sheet whose size in a width direction along the rotation shaft is smaller than a reference size. The first determination processing portion determines an execution time of a cooling process of cooling the fixing portion, based on the first temperature information. In a case where the execution time of the cooling process determined by the first determination processing portion exceeds an upper limit time, the restriction processing portion restricts the execution of the cooling process exceeding the upper limit time.

Image forming apparatus and cooling method capable of suppressing unnecessary cooling of fixing portion

An image forming apparatus includes a temperature sensor, a conveyance control portion, a driving control portion, an adjustment processing portion, and a stop processing portion. The temperature sensor is provided apart from a contact position between a fixing member and a transferred sheet to which a toner image has been transferred. The conveyance control portion continuously executes conveyance processes of conveying the transferred sheet. The driving control portion controls driving of a heater for heating the fixing member so that a temperature detected by the temperature sensor matches a predetermined temperature. The adjustment processing portion restricts the execution of the conveyance process until an adjustment process of adjusting a formation condition of the transferred sheet is completed. The stop processing portion stops the continuous execution of the conveyance processes when the restriction on the execution of the conveyance process continues beyond a predetermined timing.

An image forming apparatus includes a photoreceptor and an exposure device. The exposure device is configured to expose a surface of the photoreceptor and to form an electrostatic latent image. The polygon mirror is configured to deflect the beam emitted from the light source. The polygon motor is configured to rotate the polygon mirror. The polygon motor is rotated at least temporarily when an aging mode to remove moisture from the surface of the photoreceptor is executed.

A fixing device is provided with a magnetic flux generating unit, first and second rotary bodies, a fixing belt, a temperature sensing portion, a stopped time measuring portion, an abnormality determination portion, and a heating delay portion. The fixing belt extends between the first and second rotary bodies, and is heated by the first rotary body. The temperature sensing portion is disposed downstream of the first rotary body and senses the temperature of the fixing belt. The stopped time measuring portion measures a time period after heating has been stopped before an instruction to start heating is inputted. The abnormality determination portion determines any abnormality in the fixing belt based on a change in temperature after heating has started. When a stopped time is shorter than a pre-configured time period, the heating delay portion delays the start time via magnetic flux based on the instruction to start heating.

An image forming apparatus includes: an image formation portion; a fixing portion that includes an exciting coil for inductively heating member and a temperature detection member: a main control portion that stops a printing operation when a temperature abnormality is recognized; a notification portion; a power supply portion that supplies power to the exciting coil; and a heating control portion that controls power supply to the exciting coil and detects the power abnormality. When the heating control portion detects a power abnormality, the heating control portion stops the induction heating, provides stop notice; when the main control portion determines, based on the history of the stop notice, whether the temperature abnormality is due to the stop of the induction heating or is not due to the stop of the induction heating.

An image forming apparatus includes a fixing device including a heating roller heated by a fixing heater, a DUTY storage portion, a heater control portion, a number-of-times counting portion, a number-of-times determining portion, and a modifying portion. The DUTY storage portion stores a first DUTY table and a second DUTY table. The heater control portion reduces the consumption current of the fixing heater based on the first DUTY table when a total consumption current exceeds a setting current. The number-of-times counting portion counts the number of times the total consumption current has exceeded the setting current. The modifying portion causes the heater control portion to control the energization of the fixing heater based on the second DUTY table when the number-of-times determining portion determines that the number of times of excess exceeds a setting number of times.
