A wireless type coordinate reading apparatus, in which a coordinate value of a position indicated by a coordinate indicator can be calculated in high resolution, the coordinate indicator can be made simple, and further widths of a pen shaft and a pen tip can be narrowed is disclosed. A coordinate reading apparatus is constituted by AC magnetic field generating means for generating an AC magnetic field; a coordinate indicator having a magnetic material for producing a magnetic pulse caused by the Large Barkhausen effect when the magnetic material is positioned in the magnetic field generated from the AC magnetic field generating means; magnetic field detecting means for detecting the magnetic pulse caused by the Large Barkhausen effect; and coordinate calculating means connected to the magnetic field detecting means, for calculating a position indicated by the coordinate indicator in response to a signal produced based upon the magnetic pulse detected by the magnetic field detecting means.

Coordinate reading apparatus and coordinate indicator

To realize a coordinate reading apparatus which is capable of easily setting a particular function to a switch provided on a coordinate indicator, and an interface unit and a coordinate reading system for the coordinate reading apparatus. A coordinate detecting section 21 detects a coordinate value for a position indicated by a coordinate indicator 3 and a switch status. A function selecting means 22 determines that a menu provided on a tablet 2 is read from the coordinate value and the status, to store functional data assigned to the menu in a memory means 23. A conversion status determining means 24 determines that the inputted status coincide with the status to be converted stored in the memory means 23, to notify coincidence to a conversion status output means 25. Receiving the notification, the conversion status output means 25 outputs data to be outputted stored in the memory means 23 instead of inputted switch status.

A coordinate reading system that allows the determination of coordinate values without scanning has a simplified tablet structure and increased coordinate calculation speed. A coordinate indicator contains a coil and generates an AC magnetic field by excitation signals received from an excitation signal generating circuit. Sense lines having unequal width (zigzag sense lines) and/or rectangular return sense lines are laid in the tablet to induce signals having amplitudes that correspond to positions of the coil on the tablet when the AC magnetic field is generated. A selecting circuit directs the induced signals sequentially to a signal processing circuit. The signal processing circuit generates envelope signals of the induced signals. A calculating circuit calculates the coordinate values from the envelope signals generated by the signal processing circuit.

A wireless coordinate reading system composed of: a plurality of sense lines disposed in parallel with one another and equispaced from one another in a coordinate detecting direction; first and second excitation lines each composed of a plurality of conductors connected together in series and arranged in a zigzag pattern, the conductors being disposed in parallel with one another and equispaced from one another and extending in a direction to intersect the sense lines at right angles thereto; an excitation signal generating circuit for producing an AC signal; an excitation selecting circuit connected for connecting a selected one or the excitation lines to the excitation signal generating circuit; a scanning circuit connected for selecting successive ones of the sense lines in sequence; a wireless coordinate indicator containing components forming a resonator constructed to resonate with the AC signal generated by the excitation signal generating circuit, the indicator being positionable relative to the sense lines in order for the resonator to be electromagnetically coupled with the sense lines; and a signal processing and control circuit connected to evaluate signals induced in each sense line as the selecting and scanning circuits are operated to select successive sense lines.

An electromagnetic induction type coordinate reader composed of a main peak signal group detecting circuit for detecting a group of main peak signals out of induced signals which include a maximum-amplitude main peak signal, are close to one another, and are of the same phase; first and second secondary peak detecting circuits for detecting first and second secondary peak signals present before and after the group of main peak signals which are opposite in phase to the maximum-amplitude main peak signal and are taking maximal values of the induced signals; a main peak signal group adding circuit for obtaining the sum of amplitude of the group of main peak signals; a secondary peak subtracting circuit for obtaining the difference between the first and second secondary peaks; an inclination information calculating circuit for dividing the difference of the secondary peaks by the sum of amplitude of the group of main peak signals to deliver the inclination information of a coordinate pointer; and an inclination correcting circuit for correcting a coordinate value in terms of inclination error on the basis of the inclination information.

Coordinate reader with pointer inclination compensation

A coordinate reading apparatus for inputting coordinate data to a computer and operable in either a relative coordinate mode or an absolute coordinate mode, the apparatus including a tablet defining a coordinate surface and a coordinate designator movable across the surface so that signals are generated which are inversely proportional to the distance between the designator and the surface. In order to derive an indication of the position of the designator relative to the surface, the generated signals are compared with a reference signal and an output is produced only when the maximum generated signal exceeds the reference signal. The value of the reference signal is varied in dependence on which coordinate mode is to be employed.

In an electromagnetic induction type digitizer having a winding coil for generating magnetic field, a tablet having a plurality of conductive lines, a scanning circuit for detecting phase inversion of an induction signal induced on the conductive lines and counting means for counting the winding coil, the signal process circuit consists of an amplification circuit for amplifying the induction signal, a low pass filter for generating an envelope signal and a comparator for generating a load signal and the scanning circuit includes a decoder for controlling an analogue switch whereby a phase detector is eliminated and the signal process circuit becomes simple as compared with conventional signal process circuit.

Digitizer using phase inversion detection system

A coordinate determining device comprised of a tablet having a plurality of sensing lines disposed thereon, and a magnetic field generator positionable relative to the sensing lines for indicating the coordinates of the magnetic field generator position. Detecting circuitry detects induced electromotive voltages from the sensing lines, and an arithmetic control unit computes the position of the magnetic field generating coordinate indicator and corrects for position errors caused by inclination of the magnetic field generating coordinate indicator relative to the tablet having the sensing lines disposed thereon.
