An electrical connector is provided for a flat cable having an upper surface and a lower surface. The connector includes a dielectric housing having an opening for receiving an end of the flat cable in a cable-insertion slot. A plurality of first terminals are mounted in the housing and each has a generally U-shaped configuration defining a base leg and an upper leg. Both legs are fixed in the housing and define a mouth therebetween coincident with the opening in the housing for receiving the end of the flat cable. A flexible contact arm extends from a distal end of the base leg into the mouth and defines a first contact section. A plurality of second terminals are mounted in the housing and each includes a base fixed in the housing and a bifurcated arm flexibly connected to the base and extending toward the opening in the housing. The bifurcated arm includes an upper arm extension and a lower arm extension having a second contact section. An actuator is pivotally mounted on the housing for movement between an open position and a closed position and includes a pivot section engageable with pivot sections of the upper legs of the first terminals and a pressure section facing downwardly toward the cable-insertion slot. The actuator in its open position allows the flat cable to be inserted freely into the slot. The actuator in its closed position causes the pressure section thereof to engage the upper surface of the flat cable and bias the lower surface of the cable against the second contact sections of the second terminals, while the upper arm extensions of the second terminals engage the upper surface of the flat cable and bias the lower surface of the cable against the first contact sections of the first terminals.

Electrical connector for flat cables

An electrical connector is provided for terminating a flat circuit. The connector includes a dielectric housing having an elongated slot for receiving the flat circuit. A plurality of terminals are mounted on the housing and are spaced laterally along the slot. The terminals have contact portions for engaging appropriate conductors of the flat circuit. An actuator is pivotally mounted on the housing for rotational movement between an open position allowing insertion of the flat circuit into the slot and an actuating position biasing the flat circuit against the contact portions of the terminals. Complementary interengaging oblique ramps are provided on the housing and the actuator. The oblique ramps are arranged to confront and abut each other when the actuator is in its open position to hold the actuator thereat.

Electrical connector for flat circuits

A connector is provided for terminating a plurality of generally parallel coaxial cables having fine conductor cores. The connector includes a dielectric housing having a slot. A plurality of terminals are mounted on the housing with contact portions spaced along the slot. A wire management member is insertable into the slot and includes a plurality of grooves for receiving the conductor cores and spacing the cores in alignment with the contact portions of the terminals. An actuator engages the wire management member and biases the conductor cores against the contact portions of the terminals.

Connector for coaxial cables with very fine conductors

Disclosed is an improved electric connector which permits the reduced friction insertion of conductors of a flat flexible cable in a connector housing by a single push, assuring little or no damage to the conductors. The connector includes a housing 1 having terminals 3 arranged laterally and an associated actuator 10 slidably inserted in the connector housing 1. The actuator 10 has a flat stem surface 12 upon which a flat, flexible multiple-conductor cable 16 may lie upon, and a front wall 20 integrally connected to the forward end of the stem 11. The flexible contact arm 6 has an extended section 25 and a non-extended section 26 acting as a cam surface. The top 23 of the front wall of the actuator 10 acts as a cam forward as the actuator is inserted in the housing 1. When the cam follower 23 slides off the extended section 25 onto the non extended section the load on the flexible arm 6 is released allowing the contact point 7 on the arm 6 to be forced into electrical contact with a conductor 19 in the cable 16. While the actuator is being inserted and withdrawn from the housing the cable 16 travels along.

Electric connector

Disclosed is a small-sized electric motor equipped with an improved electric connector, which prevents high forces being exerted on exposed conductors of an insulated wire in the course of insertion or withdrawal of the exposed conductors from the connector housing, thereby preventing the rubbing between the exposed conductors and the terminal contacts of the electric connector. The electric connector includes an actuator. The actuator, when fully inserted in said connector housing, is adapted to push the exposed conductors against the contacts of the contact beams of the terminals, thereby causing the contact beams of the terminals to be forced into the exposed conductors.

An improved anti-bend pin spacer is disclosed for use in a multi-pin connector which includes a male plug having pins terminals fixed in its housing, and a female receptacle having pin holes and contact terminals fixed in its housing. The pin spacer is an insert molded part which is insert molded about free ends of the pin terminals simultaneously with the insert molding of substantial lengths of the pin terminals in the housing of the male plug.
