In a method of adjusting the balance of the rotor of an AC generator which comprises a pair of magnetic pole cores with magnetic pole claws which are intertwined with each other, the amount and direction of unbalance of the rotor are detected, the amount of unbalance thus detected is divided into two components along the center lines of adjacent magnetic pole claws, a hole is drilled in the outer peripheral surface of the magnetic pole claw on which the larger of the components lies in such a manner that the hole is in alignment with the center line of the magnetic pole claw; and those operations are carried out repeatedly until the balance thus adjusted falls in a predetermined range of allowance, whereby the balance of the rotor is readily adjusted with high accuracy.

An alternator for motor vehicles having a mounting structure suitable for mounting to an engine, in which at least one mounting projecting section having U-grooves in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the axis of rotation is formed integral with each of the front and rear brackets constituting a housing so as to enable mounting the alternator to an engine. The alternator thus constituted has a simple, low-cost mounting structure and improved strength such as vibration resistance.

A rolling bearing device comprises a ball bearing having an outer ring and an inner ring to which a rotating shaft is fitted, a snap ring fitted in an eccentric annular groove formed in the outer circumferential surface of the outer ring of the ball bearing, the snap ring having a head portion projecting in the radial direction from the groove and an inner circumferential part supporting the ball bearing therein. The inner circumferential part is provided with a small diameter part to which the outer ring of the ball bearing is fitted and a large diameter part having a diameter greater than that of the small diameter part but allowing passing of the head portion of the snap ring.

A control device for an alternator which can be fabricated as a single hybrid integrated circuit. The output of the alternator which is to be used to drive the field coil of the generator is rectified, and the rectified voltage is voltage divided by two resistors, one of which has a smoothing capacitor connected in parallel therewith. A detection and amplification transistor amplifies the signal at the junction point of the resistors and applies the amplified signal through a Zener diode to the base of a control transistor, the latter driving a switching transistor which controls the amount of current passing through the field coil of the generator.

Control device for charging generator

A charging generator system including a protective circuit which prevents the generator system from overheating when the ambient temperature is extraordinarily high. A protective shorting circuit is coupled between a rectifier output terminal supplying the field coil of the generator and the ground terminal. The protective shorting circuit has a high resistance for normal temperatures and a low resistance for high temperatures, thereby to interrupt the current flow in the field coil when high temperatures occur. In one embodiment, the protective shorting circuit means is implemented with a single thermistor. In another embodiment, a protective transistor is coupled to the field coil, and base current is supplied to the protective transistor when the temperature rises above a predetermined level to thereby shut off the current flow through the field coil under such conditions.

A control apparatus for controlling the power supply to the field coil of a charging generator in which a smoothing capacitor of a low capacitance value is provided to prevent maloperation in the control circuit due to ripples in the output of the generator. A switching transistor controls the current flow through the field coil, while a control transistor controls the switching transistor and a zener diode is provided for energizing the control transistor. A first detection circuit is connected to the smoothing capacitor for detecting the rectified output of the generator and thereby producing a voltage at a first detection point. A second detection circuit produces a voltage at a second detection point which is higher than the first detection point voltage. An amplifying transistor having a base connected to the first detection point energizes the zener diode in accordance with the state of the output of either of the first and second detection circuits.

Control apparatus for charging generator

A charge display circuit for indicating the charging state of an automotive electrical system in which the brightness of the charge display lamp is increased while reducing the average power consumption of the circuit. A rectifier circuit having first and second DC output terminals and an AC input terminal is connected to the output winding assembly of an AC generator with the first DC output terminal connected to one terminal of the battery to charge the battery. A charge display lamp is connected through a key switch between the second DC output terminal and the charging terminal of the battery. A resistor having a positive temperature coefficient is connected between the connecting point of the charge display lamp and second DC output terminal and a ground terminal. The resistor may be implemented as a plurality of resistors having positive temperature coefficients connected in parallel with one another, or as a fixed resistor connected in parallel with a resistor having a positive temperature coefficient.

The present invention relates to a power supply system for vehicles having a generator which includes an armature coil for generating three-phase alternating current, a field coil held in opposition to the armature coil, a rectifier for converting an A.C. output of the armature coil into a direct current, and a voltage regulator for setting the generated voltage of the armature coil at a constant value by controlling a current flowing through the field coil, and a first battery which is connected across output terminals of the generator; a starting motor and an electric load connected in parallel with the first battery; and consists of a two-battery power supply system for vehicles comprising a second battery which is connected to an ignition device separately from said first battery, and which is charged by a power source other than said generator.

A rectifier has a pair of heat dissipating plates at the positive (+) side and the negative (-) side which constitute a full-wave rectification circuit and are positioned in mutual confrontation with a small gap between them, and an insulating material to electrically insulate the both heat dissipating plates. A recessed portion is formed in each of the mutually opposed parts of the both heat dissipating plates; a noise-preventing capacitor element is housed in a closed space defined by the recessed portions to make an outer covering for the capacitor, and the capacitor element and each of the heat dissipating plates are electrically connected.
