According to one embodiment, there is provided a rotating electrical machine including a core, a coil extending from the core, and an electromagnetic shield which is provided outside the core, and has a plurality of shoulders projecting toward the coil. The coil includes an insulator covering outside of a conductor, a resistance layer formed on a surface of the insulator and contacting the core, and at least one potential grading layer formed on a surface of the insulator adjacent to the resistance layer. A boundary between the resistance layer and potential grading layer is provided at a position farther from the core than a point on a surface of the coil, where a distance between the coil and a shoulder of the electromagnetic shield closest to the core is the shortest.

A submarine cable branching system includes a plurality of directional relays in respective power feed paths branched at a common node, each of the directional relays being energized by a current flowing through the power feed path in a predetermined direction for energizing a corresponding switch provided in a different power feed path to establish a bilateral feed path and further a unilateral feed path, wherein there is provided a bypassing switch across one of the switches that forms the bilateral feed path, such that the bypassing switch is urged to close in response to energization of a self-sustaining relay provided in the unilateral feed path.

In a power control monitoring system for monitoring a power feed for a cable communications system including n cable landing stations where n is an integer, a network connects m cable landing stations among the n cable landing stations to each other by communications lines other than power feed cables connecting the n cable landing stations where m is an integer equal to or smaller than n. A sender/receiver, which is provided in each of the m cable landing stations, transfers information concerning the power feed with respect to the m cable landing stations to each other. A control and output unit, which is provided in each of the m cable landing stations, gathers the information concerning the power feed with respect to the m cable landing stations and outputs the information so that the information is simultaneously output in the m cable landing stations.

Power control monitoring system for underwater cable communications

A fault locating method and submarine equipment for detecting the location of a fault developed in a communication system including an optical submarine cable and submarine equipment such as repeaters and branching units inserted in the cable, which is supplied with operating current via a feed line of the cable. The submarine equipment has a main processing circuit for transmitting signals via the submarine cable; an power unit inserted in the feed line so as to supply operating power for the main processing circuit by receiving the operating current from the feed line; a nonlinear resistance device which is connected to the feed line and the resistance value of which increases as a current flowing through it decreases, and a charging/discharging resistor disposed in parallel to the nonlinear resistance device. The fault locating method detects the location of an open-circuit fault occurring in the cable by measuring the capacitance of the open-circuit cable. The capacitance measurement is quickly and accurately carried out by charging and discharging the cable capacitance through the charging/discharging resistor.

A feeding system is provided for supplying a current to repeaters on a communication cable including a feed line for conducting a current to the repeaters. The feeding system includes a plurality of branching units provided on the communication cable and terminal stations each being connected through at least one of the repeaters to one of the branching units, and each of the terminal stations feeding a current through the feed line to the repeaters. In addition each of the plurality of branching units includes at least one switching circuit for switching to connect the at least one of the repeaters to the communication cable or to the ground, depending on the amount of current conducting through the feed line in the communication cable. Further, the current thresholds of the switching circuits in the plurality of branching units are preferably different from each other.

Feeding system and feeding method for a submarine cable communication

A power feed line switching circuit for a submarine branching unit has first, second and third electrical paths connected in a Y-shaped connection, and first, second and third terminals connected respectively thereto. The power feed line switching circuit also has first, second and third relays each including a drive unit inserted in the first, second and third terminals and a switching unit for disconnecting the corresponding terminal and connecting the terminal to the ground, respectively. These relays are used to control the connections between the terminals and electrical paths, for establishing a one-end power feed line or a both-end power feed line to maintain power feed for repeaters and the submarine branching unit by the plurality of relays, even though a fault is caused in the optical marine cables for cable landing stations.

An electrically insulated coil is composed of a coil and a mica tape containing a first resinous composition, wound upon the coil; the resinous composition containing a maleimide compound, an epoxy resin, a curing catalyst consisting of an aluminum compound, and a curing accelerator selected from the group consisting of a silane compound having a hydroxyl group and a polysiloxane compound having a hydroxyl group; the curing catalyst and the curing accelerator each being in an amount of about 0.0001 to 5% by weight based on the total amount of the maleimide compound and the epoxy resin; and the resinous composition being cured by heating after the mica tape is wound around the coil. The electrically insulated coil may further contain a second resinous composition comprising an epoxy resin and an acid anhydride, the second resinous composition impregnating the mica tape after the mica tape is wound around the coil, and being heat-cured together with the first resinous composition.
