Disclosed herein is a magnetic storage device including a carriage with an opening. The opening defines a central axis and has multiple ridges parallel with the central axis. A cross-sectional shape of the opening, along a plane perpendicular to the central axis, includes multiple lobes, each terminating at two of the multiple ridges. The magnetic storage device also includes a pivot positioned in the opening in contact with the multiple ridges. The pivot has a cross-sectional shape, along the plane perpendicular to the central axis, that is circular. The carriage is rotatable, relative to at least one portion of the pivot, about the central axis.

Disclosed herein is a magnetic storage device that comprises a housing having a base and a cover. The base includes a bottom portion and side portions that define an interior cavity for maintaining magnetic disks. The side portions form a top surface configured to receive the cover. The magnetic storage device also includes a continuous gasket disposed between the cover and the top surface. The continuous gasket is formed with at least a first region having a first cross-sectional profile, and a second region having a second cross-sectional profile. The magnetic storage device also includes an adhesive disposed between the continuous gasket and the top surface and configured to bond the continuous gasket to the base.

Described herein is a system that includes a hard disk drive. The hard disk drive includes a base and a cover welded to the base by a weld bead. The base and the cover form a hermetically sealed housing. The system further includes a shield, coupled to an exterior of the hermetically sealed housing over the weld bead. The shield also is spaced-apart from the weld bead.
