In a tape cassette housing including a lid which protects the tape at the front of the housing, and a lid locking member turnably pivoted in the housing and having two leg levers, one to lock the lid when the latter closes the front opening of the housing and the other to release the lid when the same is turned open, the distance between the rotational center of the pivot of the lid locking member and the crown of its head is longer than the distance between the center of pivot bearing in the housing and the rear wall of a space in which the lid locking member is mounted.

In a magnetic tape cartridge having a detection opening which can be opened or closed with a plug to prevent erroneous erasure of recorded signals on the tape, an indication opening through which the plug can be seen from the outside and a slot through which the plug is positioned as desired are both formed in a first wall of the cartridge housing, and the detection opening is formed in a second wall located differently from the first, in such a manner that the indication opening or slot is selectively closed by sliding of the plug from one position to the other or vice versa. The plug includes an elastic lock member in sliding contact with the inner surface of the first wall. The first wall has two grooves such that, when the plug is in either position, the lock member fits in the corresponding one of the two grooves. The plug is L-shaped along the inner surfaces of the first and second walls, and the lock member is disposed in a recess formed within the plug.

A resiliently-mounted protective cover mounted on a magnetic tape cassette is controllably moved between exposed and protected positions along substantially the same path of movement during each use of the cassette. Blocking walls are provided in the interior of the cassette for preventing contaminants from reaching and contacting the magnetic tape therein.

A magnetic tape cartridge is provided with a pressing spring secured to a cartridge to press a spring-contact projection formed at the center of the upper part of a reel. The pressing spring includes a reel-contacting part formed at its inner part, a spring-functioning part holding the reel-contacting part and a base plate connected to a root portion of the spring-functioning part. The reel-contacting part presses the spring-contact projection of the reel downwardly so that a pressing force acts on the reel in its axial direction.

In a magnetic tape cassette comprising a cassette housing, a lid pivotally connected to the front of the housing to open and close its front opening, and a lock member fitted in one front side portion of the housing and engageable with and disengageable from the inner surface of the lid, a lock-member-biasing spring is accommodated within the thickness of the lock member, with a free end engaged with the housing. The lock member has means with which to press the both end portions of the spring in place. It has also a bulge formed on its side opposite to the recessed side and which is larger in diameter than a pivot by which the lock member is supported by the housing. The bulge is accommodated within a wall opening of the cassette housing.

A magnetic tape cartridge comprising upper and lower half casings and a lid placed in the front of said upper and lower half casings so as to be opened and closed, in which pivot pins of the lid are fitted into supporting openings formed in the upper half casing or the lower half casing and the dimension at the entrance of each of the supporting openings is smaller than the diameter of each of the pivot pins so that the pivot pins are forced to be snap-fitted into the supporting openings.

A magnetic tape cassette comprises a locking means which is slidable between a locking position of engagement with a pair of reels held in the magnetic tape cassette and a releasing position of disengagement from the reels. The locking means is provided with a pair of flexible pawls. A guide rib is fixed to the inner bottom surface of a cassette casing and between the pair of flexible pawls, the width of the guide rib being decreased toward the root of the pair of flexible pawls and a pair of guide pins are provided at the outside of the pair of flexible pawls.

A reel for a magnetic tape comprises at least one boss for forcible insertion which is formed on a reel hub on the contacting to a flange; a fitting hole which is formed in the flange at a position corresponding to the boss and which has a smallest diameter portion smaller than the greatest diameter portion of the boss and a detent portion. The boss is provided with at least one dividing slot and an engaging jaw to engage with the detent portion of the fitting hole at a position where the boss is fully inserted.
