The image forming apparatus forms a test chart on an image bearing member, the test chart including a plurality of test images including a first test image of a first density and a second test image formed at a position different from a position of the first test image in a conveying direction of a recording medium, the second test image having a second density different from the first density. The image forming apparatus transfers the test chart to the recording medium with a transfer roller and controls the rotation velocity of the transfer roller when the recording medium passes through a transfer portion based on a result of reading the test chart on the recording medium with a reading unit.

A sheet feeding device includes a feeding roller pair, a detecting portion, a first changing portion, a second changing portion, and a controller for controlling the first changing portion and the second changing portion. The controller starts a first feeding operation for feeding a sheet toward the obliquely feeding roller pair in a nipping state of the feeding roller pair and then starts a second feeding operation for feeding the sheet for abutting a side end of the sheet against the reference member in the nipping state of the obliquely feeding roller pair. The controller changes, after the first feeding operation is started and before the second feeding operation is started, a start timing of the second feeding operation on the basis of a detection result of a position of the side end of the sheet detected by the detecting portion.

An image forming apparatus includes a control unit that controls a conveyance velocity of conveying a recording medium by a fixing unit, to form a loop in the recording medium between a transfer nip portion and a fixing nip portion, in which the control unit controls the conveyance velocity to decrease the loop when a rear end of the recording medium reaches a first position that is apart upstream, in the conveyance direction, from a conveying nip portion of a conveying unit, by a distance that corresponds to a circumference length of a pressure-applying rotating member multiplied by an integer.
