Poly(hydroxy ether) having a repeat unit of the formula, ##STR1## wherein R is a dihydric mononuclear phenol residue, R' is a dihydric polynuclear phenol residue, n is a positive number and n' is 0 or a positive number, provided that n and n' satisfy 35.ltoreq.n+n'.ltoreq.400. The poly(hydroxy ether) is useful for the production of paints for metal, wood, glass and plastics as well as varnishes, primers, films, fibers, resin-modifying agents, and molding materials and it is particularly useful for zinc dust paints.

A composition comprising an epoxy resin having at least two epoxy groups in the molecule and a hardener selected from the group consisting of (1) a resorcinol novolak having an unreacted resorcinol content of 10% by weight or less, (2) a mixed novolak of a resorcinol novolak and a monohydric phenol novolak having a total unreacted resorcinol and monohydric phenol content of 8% by weight or less, and (3) a resorcinol/monohydric phenol polycondensation novolak having a polycondensed resorcinol content of 30 mole % or more and a total unreacted resorcinol and monohydric phenol content of 8% by weight or less. The composition is useful for moldings, laminates, paints, and adhesives with excellent thermal resistance, durability and electrical characteristics.

A low profile unsaturated polyester resin composition comprising (A) a reaction product between (1) a saturated polyester having a molecular weight of 3,000 - 50,000 obtained from a saturated polycarboxylic acid and a polyhydric alcohol and (2) an unsaturated monoglycidyl compounds, (B) an unsaturated polyester, and (C) an unsaturated monomer copolymerizable with the reaction product (A) and the unsaturated polyester (B) which gives a molded articles of improved surface smoothness and dimensional stability without deterioration of strength peculiar to unsaturated polyester resins.

Low profile unsaturated polyester resin composition

Unsaturated epoxy esters with improved curability are prepared by the reaction of (1) a partial esterification compound obtained from trimellitic anhydride and/or pyromellitic anhydride and an unsaturated monoalcohol; (2) (i) a partial esterification compound obtained from a dicarboxylic anhydride and an unsaturated monoalcohol and/or ( ii) a polymerizable unsaturated monobasic acid; and (3) a compound containing at least two epoxy groups in one molecule; if desired in the presence of (4) a dicarboxylic acid or a saturated or unsaturated alkyd having carboxyl groups at both terminals and/or a saturated or unsaturated monoglycidyl compound.
