An image forming device for printing images on sheets of material includes a photosensitive member for carrying a latent image thereon, a developing roller rotatably disposed adjacent to the photosensitive member for supplying a layer of toner to the photosensitive member through rotation, and a developing blade adjustably disposed adjacent to the developing roller for regulating the thickness of the toner layer supplied to the photosensitive member. A driving circuit controllably rotates the developing roller, and a controller controls the driving circuit. The controller generates signals to control the driving circuit to reverse the rotation of the developing roller under certain conditions.

A developing apparatus includes restriction member disposed midway of a route through which developer is delivered from a hopper to a supply roller. The restriction member restricts the amount of the developer to be supplied to the supply roller. The amount of developer supplied from the supply roller to a developing roller is limited by the provision of the restriction member. The developer on the surface of the developing roller is thinned or doctored by a developing blade and develops an electrostatic latent image on a carrier.

A device for the pressure fixing of a toner image contains a pair of pressure fixing rolls arranged in parallel to each other. An image record carrier is fed in between said pressure fixing rolls which, for the pressure fixing of the toner image, are pressed against each other through a pressure bar by means of a plurality of pressure generators. Said pressure generators are positioned displaceably in the axial direction of said pressure fixing rolls to adjust a load distribution depending upon the width of said record carrier.
