A water-resistant slide fastener has a pair of water-resistant transversely stretchable stringer tapes having reinforced marginal edge portions, respectively, each including an elastically deformable core tape, and a pair of rows of coupling elements mounted on the reinforced marginal edge portions, respectively, and engageable with each other across a central axis. The reinforced marginal edge portions have a pair of confronting edges projecting toward each other beyond the central axis when the rows of coupling elements are out of mutual engagement. Each of the stringer tapes has a woven or knitted foundation tape and a soft sealing layer on the foundation tape. Each of the reinforced marginal edge portions includes a folded marginal tape edge portion with the soft sealing layer disposed outside. The core tape is sandwiched between the folded marginal tape edge portion and a major portion of one of the stringer tapes.

Water-resistant slide fastener and method of manufacturing the same

A slide fastener comprises a reinforcement strip fixed to at least one surface of each stringer tape of nonwoven sheet material along its one longitudinal edge to which a row of coupling elements is attached by sewing stitches. The stringer tape is made of thermoplastic synthetic resin, and the reinforcement strip comprises a film of thermoplastic synthetic resin fused with or otherwise bonded to the stringer tape so as to form a reinforced longitudinal edge of the stringer tape. The reinforced longitudinal edge has an increased mechanical strength for protection against forces tending to tear apart the stringer tape along the sewing stitches. The reinforcement strips jointly have a transverse width larger than the width of a slider to protect the stringer tape from being worn away due to frictional engagement with a slider during use of the slide fastener.

Slide fastener

A slide fastener suitable for use on an article made of a plastics material comprises a pair of stringer tapes each including an element-supporting portion formed of a woven or knit fabric, supporting on and along its one longitudinal edge a row of coupling elements and disposed in confronting relation to a guide flange of a slider, and a web portion made of a plastics material and joined with the element-supporting portion for the attachment to the plastic article. Such combination of the fabric element-supporting portion with the plastic web portion provides prolonged service life of the slide fastener without being affected by changing ambient temperature.

Slide fastener suitable for use on articles made of plastics material

A slide fastener has tape-reinforcing portions used for mounting a separable end stop. Each of the tape-reinforcing portions is provided at one end portion of each of a pair of fastener tapes, and includes a reinforcing piece which has one side surface adapted to be bonded to the corresponding fastener tape, and a surface layer made of a thermoplastic resin material which is provided on the other side surface of the reinforcing layer. The thermoplastic resin material which forms the surface layer is selected from those thermoplastic resin materials which have a low enough melting point to make it possible for the tape-reinforcing portion to be welded to the portion of an article to which the slide fastener is attached.

A slide fastener includes a row of coupling elements secured by sewing stitches to one longitudinal edge of a support tape made of a fabric material free of threads woven or knitted together. The sewing stitches are formed of at least one thread having loops passing through the support tape. The thread is made of a monofilamentary material which is free from thermal deformation. The slide fastener can retain, after heat-set treatment, sufficient mechanical strength at the connection between the sewing stitches and the row of coupling elements.

A water-resistant slide fastener stringer comprises a water-resistant support tape and a pair of rows of coupling elements mounted on opposite surfaces of the support tape. In production, the two coupling element rows are attached to one or water-resistant surface of a continuous water-resistant strip in a confronting relation to one another. Then the strip is folded into a pair of superposed strip halves along a longitudinal line between the opposed coupling element rows. Finally, the confronting inner surfaces of the strip halves are joined to one another in a known manner, e.g. by an adhesive.

Water-resistant slide fastener stringer

A slide fastener for use on an object such as a bag of paper or nonwoven fabric has a pair of stringer tapes each having a tape of paper or nonwoven fabric coated on one surface with a film of thermoplastic synthetic resin. Each stringer tape is folded back on itself along a longitudinal fold, providing a folded longitudinal strip with the film facing outwardly. A row of coupling elements is attached, such as by sewing, to each stringer tape along the folded strip. The film reinforces the tape of paper or nonwoven fabric, can easily be bonded to the object upon heating, and provides smooth surfaces for allowing a slider to slide smoothly thereon.
