A radiation detector is moved along a predetermined axis of movement. Radiation which has passed through a subject is irradiated onto the radiation detector each time the position of the radiation detector changes due to the movement. Mechanical errors of the radiation detector are detected at each imaging operation, and mechanical error corrected images in which the mechanical errors are corrected are obtained. A partial image is cut out from an input image. A first classifier judges whether the partial image includes a face facing a direction within a first angular range. Another classifier judges whether the partial image includes a face facing a direction within another angular range that partially overlaps with the first angular range. The partial image is judged to include a face facing a direction within a specific angular range, which is the first angular range from which the portion that overlaps with the other angular range has been removed, if the first classifier judges that the image includes a face facing a direction within the first angular range, and the other classifier judges that the image does not include a face facing the second angular range. Each classifier is generated by machine learning, and judges whether images include faces facing directions corresponding to predetermined angular ranges.

Image quality of tomographic images obtained by optical tomographic measurement is improved. Spatial frequency processes are administered on a tomographic image, with the frequency processing properties (high frequency gain) in the scanning direction of a measuring light beam set to be lower than the frequency processing properties (high frequency gain) in the direction of the optical axis of the measuring light beam. For example, a smoothing process that removes high frequency components is administered to the tomographic image only in the scanning direction.
