In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a method of manufacturing a plasma display panel of the type which includes a discharge space defined between a pair of substrates and sealed by a sealant, the method comprising a first step of forming the sealant on at least one of the substrates and stacking one substrate on the other through the intermediation of the sealant, a second step of reducing the pressure in the space existing between the pair of substrates due to the presence of the sealant and melting the sealant by heating, a third step of curing the sealant to thereby firmly attach the pair of substrates to each other and define a predetermined discharge space, a fourth step of removing impurities in the discharge space, and a fifth step of filling the discharge space with discharge gas.

Manufacturing method of plasma display panels

A plasma display panel includes a plurality of row electrodes defining rows of a screen. The row electrodes are arranged at intervals so that adjacent row electrodes are capable of serving as an electrode pair for generating a surface discharge. Each of the row electrodes includes a belt-shaped base extending along the full length of the screen in a direction of the rows and protrusions extending from the base toward an adjacent row electrode in every column.

In a method of driving a plasma display panel to display gradation, a field includes a plurality of subfields, the subfields of each field are separated into a plurality of subfield groups, and each subfield is weighted in brightness in such a manner that the subfields in the subfield group are all equal in weight. An address period and a sustain period are allocated to each subfield. In at least one subfield group, a number of times of sustaining discharge for a subfield to be sustained independently is set different from a number of times of sustaining discharge for at least one other subfield.
