A liquid ejection apparatus includes a pressure sensor and a determining unit. The pressure sensor is configured to detect a pressure in an ink supply path for use in supplying ink from an ink tank to a recording head. The determining unit determines whether the ink supply path is anomalous based on a result of detection of the pressure in the ink supply path by the pressure sensor performed in response to application of a fluctuating pressure to the ink in the ink tank.

A fail-safe capability is realized that not only forestalls the execution by the user of the head replacement operation in an erroneous sequence while the printing apparatus is in operation but also prevents the splashing of ink even if the user attempts to inadvertently replace the print head. For this purpose, the ink supply and the opening and closing of the print head replacement cover are performed by a predetermined rotation of one drive source.

A container for containing consumable supplies for the use of an ink jet printer includes an ink containing portion for containing an ink, and an ink communication member for causing ink communication by piercing the ink containing portion when the container is attached to the printer. Before the container is attached to the printer, the ink containing portion can contain the ink sealingly and independently of the outside. As a result, ink leakage during distribution of the container can be prevented and the ink containing portion having, e.g., a bag-like shape, can be produced by a simple process, for sealingly containing the ink.

A printer in which an inkjet recording head is scanned with relation to a printing medium includes an ink supply member to be connected with a reserving portion arranged within the recording head when the inkjet recording head is positioned at the end portion of a scanning area, and a suction member for providing a suction power in introducing inks from the ink supply member to the reserving portion. Associated with a movement of the inkjet recording head to the end portion, those members are connected to the inkjet recording head at a different time. Herewith, in comparison with the case where those members are connected to the inkjet recording head at the same time, a force for moving the inkjet recording head required for such connection is reduced to achieve a downsizing of a driving source for generating the movement.

An ink-jet recording apparatus capable of efficiently performing a pressurization recovery operation on a recording head without causing clogging due to dust particles. An ink supply system for supplying ink to the head includes an ink container with an air space defined above the ink surface, and a pump for pressurizing air within the air space, which pump is arranged to connect the air space with either the pressure side of the pump or the atmosphere. Thus, in either case the pump need only pressurize a small volume of air in the ink container so that, during a recovery operation, the air pressurized by the pump efficiently pressurizes the ink within the auxiliary ink tank or small ink chamber even when the amount of ink has decreased.
