A Helmholtz resonator communicates with an interior of an intake passage, which is configured to draw intake air to a combustion chamber of an engine. The Helmholtz resonator has a volume chamber and a communication pipe. The volume chamber forms a resonance chamber. The communication pipe communicates the volume chamber with the intake passage. The communication pipe includes an acoustic stack, which is configured to cause a temperature gradient by utilizing an acoustic energy.

Vehicular air intake apparatus

A sound absorbing structure includes multiple sound absorbers. The sound absorbers are assembled together into a sound absorbing member. The sound absorbing member absorbs sound emitted from a sound source. Each of the sound absorbers is shaped like a hollow tube. A centrifugal air-oil separator for separating liquid particles from gases containing the liquid particles includes a substantially cylindrical air-oil separation chamber and a substantially conical liquid discharge chamber which are integrated with each other and are horizontally disposed, and an air-oil separation plate disposed between a gas supply port communicating with the air-oil separation chamber and a gas discharge port communicating with the liquid discharge chamber. A liquid discharge port is provided at a lowest portion between a largest-diameter portion of the liquid discharge chamber and the air-oil separation plate, and the liquid discharge port is covered thereabove with a reverse flow prevention wall. A strong swirl flow is generated in the air-oil separation chamber by the action of the air-oil separation plate to thereby enhance the liquid separation effect, and the reverse flow of liquid from the liquid discharge port to the liquid discharge chamber can be prevented.

Centrifugal air-oil separator

A cyclone type, gas-liquid separator has a gas lead-through pipe penetrating an upper end wall of a cyclone chamber and extending downward to have a gas outlet in the cyclone chamber. A generally annular baffle plate is provided on an outer circumference of the gas lead-through pipe in the vicinity of the gas outlet to generally divide. the inside of the cyclone chamber into upper and lower. spaces. Accordingly, swirl flow formed in the upper space is prevented from being drawn directly by a negative pressure of the gas lead-through pipe without swirling sufficiently, so that separation efficiency is improved.

Cyclone type gas-liquid separator

A filter element has a wavy filter portion including a plurality of ridges of a filter material, which are juxtaposed to one another and closed at their sides, and a flange portion extending along a mounting plane around the filter portion for supporting the filter portion. The flange portion is made of the same filter material extending from the filter portion, by compressing the filter material more densely than the filter portion. The filter element is manufactured by a step of preparing an intermediate product of a wavy sheet, and a step of forming the filter portion by leaving the central portion of the wavy intermediate product as in the wavy sheet, and forming the flange portion around the filter portion for supporting the filter portion, by pressing the side portions of the ridges of the wavy intermediate product along the mounting plane.

Process for manufacturing a filter element

Fuel supply devices for an engine are disposed within an intake duct located upstream of an air cleaner. Thus, the fuel supply devices such as fuel injection valves and a fuel supply pipe are always cooled by intake air flow while the engine is being driven. In addition, heat conducted from the engine to the fuel supply device can be insulated by the intake duct when the engine is stopped. Further, since the intake duct located upstream of the air cleaner does not dispose functional parts such as a filter therein, a high degree of freedom for mounting the intake duct on the engine is maintained so that the intake duct can be easily disposed at the position where the fuel supply devices are located.

Intake duct and intake system for internal combustion engine

An air cleaner, a throttle, a surge tank and air-intake pipes of an intake manifold are combined in a unit and a fuel delivery pipe and fuel injectors are installed in the unit before the unit of an air-intake device is assembled to an internal combustion engine. Cases of the above members are integrally formed thereby to reduce the size of the device and material used for the device. A dusty-side of the air cleaner is disposed under a filter element to prevent dust and water from getting into the clean-side of the filter element when the element is removed to have serviced or inspected.

Air intake device for an internal combustion engine

An engine rotating speed sensor detects intake sound information due to the drive of an engine. A controller generates a signal having a frequency corresponding to a desired ratio of orders based on the detected intake sound information. Further, a phase and an amplitude the signal are controlled, and so a speaker arranged in a propagation path of the intake sound of the engine generates control sound to control the intake sound due to the drive of the engine. An engine noise control apparatus which is capable of effectively reducing or waveform-reshaping a wide range of engine noise. The apparatus has an engine rotating speed sensor for detecting an engine rotating speed and a waveform generator circuit for converting a rotation pulse signal to a periodic signal having a frequency which is a predetermined multiple of the detected engine rotating speed. The output of an air flow meter is passed through a bandpass filter and a reshaping circuit to generate a control signal which is an average value of alternating current components of the output. A CPU, with reference to a map previously stored in a memory, modifies the phase and amplitude of the periodic signal with respect to an engine rotation reference signal based on the rotation pulse signal and the control signal, and outputs the modified signal as driving signals to operate speakers disposed in an intake tube and an exhaust tube for reducing noise.

Automobile filter element

A noise control apparatus has a thermal-type air flow meter for detecting engine load, an engine speed sensor for detecting engine speed, and an intake temperature sensor for detecting intake temperature. The engine load is detected based on the surging components of the signal from the air flow meter. An intake pipe is provided with a speaker that produces a noise control wave in accordance with a control signal from a controller. The controller has a memory that stores map data for noise control waves that are equal in sound pressure but opposite in phase with respect to intake noise. The map data regarding sound pressure and phase correspond to the engine load and speed on the basis of a reference temperature. A CPU of the controller computes a map-reading engine speed value based on a wavelength of intake noise that is determined based on intake temperature and engine speed, such that the map-reading engine speed value provides at the reference temperature substantially the same wavelength as that of the intake noise. The CPU generates a noise control wave signal based on the map-reading engine speed value and engine load information.

Noise control apparatus for internal combustion engine

A device for cancelling annoying sounds caused by operation of an internal combustion engine. An intake sound of the engine, and also a rotational speed of the engine, are obtained. The phase difference between the present intake sound and a desired intake sound is obtained using map data. The map data depends on the rotational speed of the engine and is specifically calculated so that at least the (n+0.5) harmonics (n integer.gtoreq.0) are cancelled. The phase data is used to drive a ceramic speaker or two oppositely directed ceramic speakers, to appropriately compensate the input sound.

Intake sound control apparatus

An intake apparatus for an internal combustion engine that has a first intake passage communicating with a combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine; a second intake passage which communicates with the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine and whose length is greater than a length of the first intake passage; a valve for selectively changing over the communication/shutting off of the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine with/from between the first or/and second intake passages; and a drive circuit for driving the valve to effect the changing over operation. A controller controls the drive circuit, and an air cleaner device introduces clean air into the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine. The first and second intake passages are disposed inside a case of the air cleaner device, and the valve is disposed at a position which is prevented from interfering the outlet side of the second intake passage when the first intake passage is closed by the valve and the second intake passage is opened by the valve.
