The optical module for optical height measurement includes a laser light source, an irradiation optical system, a detection optical system, and a detector. The laser light source is configured to irradiate the layer-structured specimen with a light beam. The irradiation optical system includes an objective lens. The objective lens is located to be approximately perpendicular to the layer-structured specimen. The detection optical system is configured to guide a reflected light reflected by the layer-structured specimen and a light passing through the objective lens and an aperture-restrictor-for-return to the detector. The aperture-restrictor-for-return is located immediately after the objective lens. The aperture-restrictor-for-return is configured to restrict the reflected light and cause only a light in a high NA region to pass through. The detector is configured to convert an entered light into a light detection signal. The detector includes a multi-divided detector array.

It is made possible to amplify signal light of an optical fiber sensor and to perform measurement in a long distance. At least one of a plurality of core wires in a multicore optical fiber is used as a signal-light propagating core wireand the other is used as a reference-light propagating core wire. When data is recorded on an optical disc, and stored for a long period of time, there is a need to periodically evaluate whether a quality of the recorded data is determined with time, or not. If the signal quality is lower than a given level as an evaluation result, a work for moving the data to a brand-new optical disc is required. However, in periodical inspection, if the number of optical discs is enormous, a large amount of time is required to evaluate all data recorded on the optical disc. In recording user data on the optical disc, a signal of a particular pattern having a lifetime shorter than a reference lifetime of the user data is recorded in a given area of the optical disc in advance, the particular pattern signal is reading at given time intervals, and processing on the user data is determined on the basis of the evaluation result of the signal quality.

A recording waveform is adjusted based on the fluctuation amount of the mark edge position, focused on that fluctuation of a mark edge position is increased in aged deterioration of a recording signal. Specifically, the recording waveform is adjusted such that a fluctuation amount becomes minimum or a threshold value or less. Then, information is recorded on the optical disc using the recording waveform. Further, provided is a recording medium or an information recording apparatus which stores parameters of the recording waveform.

Information recording method, information recording apparatus, information recording medium, and medium estimating method

A two-piece optical fiber connector comprises an internal member and an external member. The internal member includes a block having a hole which receives the end of an optical fiber cord and cantilevers provided along the side walls of the block having internal and external projections when no force is applied. The external member includes an opening through which the optical fiber cord is inserted and an opening or recess which engages with the external projections of the cantilevers when the block of the internal member is fit into the external member axially and slidably. Once the internal member and external member are fitted, the internal projections on the cantilevers securely hold the optical fiber cord in place.

Optical fiber connector

First and second ferrules of an optical fiber connector assembly are provided with angled apertures proximate their contacting ends. The angled apertures have a common axis when the two ferrules are assembled together, and the single optical fibers within the apertures are ground together with the ferrule end surfaces so that they are flush therewith. Feedback light resulting from end reflection is reflected outwardly of the cable, i.e. leaked, owing to the angularity of the fiber end surface with respect to the axis thereof.

An optical fiber connector includes a cable with an optical fiber and a tube for containing the fiber. The fiber is able to move freely and axially within the tube, and is secured by a device having an internal diameter substantially the same as that of the optical fiber. This securing prevents the axial movement of the fiber held inside the tube. The securing device also has a cylindrical bore for receiving the cable fixed to the securing means.
