A gas generator includes a housing body for housing a gas generating charge, a squib for igniting the gas generating charge and a holder section that holds the squib. The holder section includes a holder body made of metal and a molded section that is molded from synthetic resin and located between the holder body and the squib. The squib and the holder body are integrally molded with the molded section at molding of the molded section. The holder section includes a support section that protrudes inwardly to support an igniter of the squib. The support section is covered by the molded section all over the outer surface and has such a sectional contour as to taper toward the leading end as taken along an axial direction of the housing body.

Gas generator

A gas generating device includes a housing and a squib. The housing includes a housing body which accommodates a gas generating agent, a holder which holds a squib, and a connector which connects the housing and the holder to each other. A housing body is connected to the holder so that an annular contact portion is pressed toward the holder. The holder includes a holder body and a resinous molding portion which is interposed between the holder body and the squib. The resinous molding portion includes a flange portion with which the annular contact portion comes into contact. The holder body includes a support portion capable of supporting the flange portion when the housing body and the holder are connected to each other by the connector.

Gas generating device

At the time of manufacturing an inflator, a blocking body is first disposed at an opening so as to allow the interior and the exterior of a housing to communicate with each other. The blocking body is abutted against a peripheral edge of the opening so as to ensure sealability between the blocking body and the peripheral edge of the opening. A filling nozzle injecting a pressurized gas is then pressed against a periphery of an inlet port of the blocking body, and the pressurized gas is injected from the filling nozzle so as to fill the pressurized gas into the housing through a filling channel. Subsequently, to block the filling channel, the blocking body is energized with a resistance-welding current to resistance-weld an inner peripheral portion of the filling channel. At the same time, the blocking body is fixed to the peripheral edge of the opening by resistance-welding so as to maintain sealability, thereby manufacturing the inflator.

Method of manufacturing an inflator

In an airbag folding method, an airbag is folded so as to provide a rolled-up shape thereon using a core member including air suction holes from which air can be sucked in. Firstly, the core member is disposed on part of the spread airbag that is to be rolled up at a location which corresponds to a center of a rolled-up shape when formed, and following this, the core member is rotated so as to wind up the airbag around the core member to thereby form a spiral shape while air is being sucked in from the air suction holes so that the airbag is drawn to be secured to an outer circumferential surface of the core member. Thereafter, a rolled-up shape is formed on the airbag by removing the core member.
