A magnetic head device for recording signals onto a disk-shaped recording medium such as a floppy disk and reproducing them therefrom is provided. This magnetic head device comprises a magnetic converter unit for conversion of signals to and from a recording medium, a slider member for holding the magnetic converter unit, and a base body on which an optical track position sense unit for optically conducting track position control for the recording medium is affixed. The slider member has a transparent slider surface portion forming an optical path of the optical track position sense unit. A photo detector head chip for servo control used in a magnetic head device as mentioned above is also provided. This photo detector head chip is such that a plurality of light receiving element sections defining a light sensitive area for providing independent light detection signals depending upon a quantity of incident light, and light insensitive sections adjacent to the light sensitive area are alternately formed on the substrate surface, and that at least the light insensitive sections are covered thereon with a light shielding film of, for example, molybdenum or carbon having a small coefficient of reflection. The light shielding film may be formed by a method including the steps of depositing a light shielding material onto an insulating film on the light sensitive and insensitive sections, and applying patterning to the deposited light shielding material so that the light sensitive area is exposed.

A device which is compatible for selectively loading either a first disk cartridge in which a first disk is encased or a second disk cartridge in which a second disk is encased and wherein the radius of the first disk is different from the radius of the second disk, the first cartridge having a first width extending over substantially the whole length of the first cartridge in the intended direction of cartridge insertion, the second cartridge consisting of a front portion having a width equal to the first width and a rear portion having a width greater than the first width, the device including a chassis and a cartridge guiding and loading apparatus supported by the chassis for selectively loading either the first cartridge or the second cartridge, the cartridge guiding and loading apparatus including guides for guiding either the first or the second cartridge as the first or second cartridge is selectively loaded into the device, the guides being moveable between first and second positions such that when in the first position, the guides engage and guide the first cartridge and the front portion of the second cartridge during the selective loading and when in the second position, the guides guide the rear portion of the seocnd cartridge during loading of the second cartridge.

A rotary magnetic head device comprises a rotary body mounted with rotary magnetic heads which rotate while scanning over a traveling magnetic tape, where the heads scan over tracks formed obliquely with respect to the longitudinal direction of the tape to reproduce recorded signals, a bearing mechanism for bearing the rotary body in a freely rotatable state and so that the rotary body is freely displaceable along an axial direction thereof, and a displacing mechanism for displacing the rotary body along the axial direction thereof so that the heads follow and scan over the tape.

A reproduced signal processing system is employed in an apparatus for recording and reproducing a television signal on and from a rotating recording medium with one field being recorded on each track by means of at least one head. A circuit delays the signal thus reproduced by a period equal to one half of one horizontal scanning period of the television signal. A gate circuit selectively passes both the delayed reproduced signal and the delayed reproduced signal. Horizontal synchronizing signal are separated from the signal passed by the gate circuit. A standard signal supplying circuit provides a standard horizontal synchronizing signal. The phases of the separated horizontal synchronizing signal and the standard horizontal synchronizing signal are compared. Detection of coincidence or non-coincidence of the two phases forms a gate signal for so controlling the reproduced signal which has passed through the delaying circuit.

The mechanism comprises a rotational motive power source having a rotary shaft and a pinion provided on the shaft, a rack meshed with said pinion and fed in translational movement by the rotation of the pinion, a single guide bar extending in the direction of feeding of the transducer, a first feeding carriage on which the rack is mounted, and which is guided by said guide bar, a second feeding carriage on which the transducer is mounted, and which is guided by said guide bar, a contact bar extending in substantially parallel with the guide bar, a contact member mounted on the second feeding carriage and contacting said contact bar, and biasing means provided between the first and second feeding carriages and functioning to impart torques to the first feeding carriage in a direction to cause the rack to mesh further with the pinion and to the second feeding carriage in a direction to cause the contact member to contact the contact bar.

A transducer feeding mechanism in an apparatus for recording and reproducing a signal on and from a rotary recording medium by means of a transducer fed over the recording medium in the radial direction thereof comprises a rotational motive power source having a rotary shaft and a pinion provided on the shaft, a rack meshed with said pinion and fed in translational movement by the rotation of the pinion, at least two guide bars extending parallelly in the direction of feeding of the transducer, a first feeding carriage on which the rack is mounted and which is guided by one of the guide bars, biasing means provided on the first feeding carriage and functioning to contact another guide bar in an elastic manner and to urge the first feeding carriage in a direction to cause the rack to mesh further with the pinion, a second feeding carriage on which the transducer is mounted, and which is guided by said other guide bar, a guide member mounted on the second feeding carriage and contacting in a rotationally displaceable manner said one of the guide bars, and engagement means functioning to place the first and second feeding carriages in contacting engagement in the feeding direction along the guide bars and in a mutually displaceable state within a plane perpendicular to the feeding direction.
