A light source module includes a light emitting element having a resonator formed of a photonic crystal structure, and a polarization conversion element, wherein the polarization conversion element includes a polarization split layer that reflects first polarized light toward a first direction, and transmit second polarized light toward a second direction, a reflecting layer that reflects the first polarized light, toward the second direction, and a retardation layer which is disposed in a light path of one of the first polarized light and the second polarized light, and converts the one of the first polarized light and the second polarized light into another of the first polarized light and the second polarized light, the resonator has a resonant part, and in a plan view, a length of the resonant part in the first direction is shorter than a length of the resonant part in a third direction perpendicular to the first direction and the second direction.

Light source module and projector

A projector includes a laser source, a light modulation element configured to modulate light emitted from the laser source in accordance with image information, and a light transmissive member disposed in a light path between the laser source and the light modulation element, and configured to transmit the light emitted from the laser source, wherein the laser source and the light modulation element are bonded to the light transmissive member, the laser source includes a substrate, and a laminated structure provided to the substrate, and having a light emitting layer configured to emit light, and the laminated structure constitutes a photonic crystal structure configured to confine the light emitted by the light emitting layer in an in-plane direction of the substrate, and emit the light emitted by the light emitting layer in a normal direction of the substrate.

Projector

A projector includes first through fourth light emitters defining a placement region for fifth light emitters. The placement region is rectangular defined by first through fourth sides. The light intensity of a sixth light emitter closest to the middle of the first side is smaller than the light intensities of the first and second light emitters. Fifth light emitters arranged in a first direction from the center of the first light emitter toward the middle of the first side have light intensities that decrease toward the positive side in the first direction between the first light emitter and the sixth light emitter, and fifth light emitters arranged in a second direction from the center of the second light emitter toward the middle of the first side have light intensities that decrease toward the positive side in the second direction between the second light emitter and the sixth light emitter.

A light emitting device includes resonant parts constituted by a photonic crystal structure, and rows each of which includes the resonant parts arranged along a first direction, wherein light resonating in the resonant part resonates in a first resonant direction and a second resonant direction, the rows are arranged along a second direction, the rows include a first row, and a second row, a distance between the resonant part located furthest at one side of the first direction in the first row and the resonant part located furthest at the one side of the first direction in the second row is different from a distance between the resonant part located furthest at the one side of the first direction and the resonant part located furthest at another side of the first direction in the first row, the first and second resonant directions are along the first and second axes respectively, and in a plan view a length along the first direction of the resonant part and a length along the second direction of the resonant part are equal to each other.

Light emitting device and projector

A wavelength conversion element includes: a wavelength conversion layer including a first surface on which excitation light is incident, and a second surface opposed to the first surface; a scattering layer provided to face the second surface, containing a plurality of particles, and at least scattering fluorescence obtained by wavelength-converting the excitation light by the wavelength conversion layer; and a reflective layer provided to face the scattering layer and reflecting the excitation light or the fluorescence. The particle diameter of the particle is smaller than the wavelength of the fluorescence.

Wavelength conversion element, light source device, and projector

A wavelength conversion element according to an aspect of the invention includes a wavelength conversion section having a first surface, a reflection section having a reflection surface that reflects the fluorescence, a light-transparent bonding section that bonds the wavelength conversion section to the reflection section, and a refractive index interface which is provided between the first surface and the reflection surface and where a first medium and a second medium having refractive indices different from each other are in contact with each other. The refractive index of the first medium is higher than the refractive index of the second medium, and regarding the fluorescence traveling from the wavelength conversion section toward the reflection section, the angular distribution of the fluorescence having passed through the refractive index interface is narrower than the angular distribution of the fluorescence before passing through the refractive index interface.

Wavelength conversion element, light source apparatus, and projector

A projector includes: a light source having a plurality of light emitting sections; a light modulation device including a reflecting section adapted to reflect the light from the light source in accordance with image information; and a projection lens adapted to project an image formed by the light modulation device, wherein the light from the light source obliquely enters the reflecting section, the light source includes a first region where the light emitting sections are disposed at a first density, and a second region where the light emitting sections are disposed at a second density higher than the first density, and a distance between the first region and the reflecting section is shorter than a distance between the second region and the reflecting section.

An illumination device includes a light source including plural light emitting devices arranged in a pattern and that generate and guide light, the light emitting devices having tilted gain regions wherein guiding directions of the light are tilted with respect to a perpendicular of output surfaces of the light source, an optical axis conversion device that bends optical axes of the light output from the light source, and a light distribution control device that controls a light distribution angle of the light output from the optical axis conversion device, wherein the light emitting devices are super luminescent diodes, and the light output from the light distribution control device diverge.

A projector includes: a housing; an optical element accommodated in the housing; and an air supply unit configured to generate a flow of cooling air for cooling a cooling target element including the optical element, a dustproof area into which the cooling air can be introduced from the outside of the housing via a dustproof filter is formed inside the housing, the optical element is accommodated in the dustproof area of the housing, and the air supply unit includes a first air supply unit configured to introduce the cooling air from the outside of the housing to the dustproof area via the dustproof filter, and a second air supply unit accommodated in the dustproof area and configured to supply the cooling air introduced to the dustproof area by the first air supply unit toward the optical element.

Projector with cooling mechanism

A projector includes a liquid crystal light valve to which the image data is written in a line sequential manner, a polarization switching element for switching between the first and second polarization states throughout the switching areas in a line sequential manner, and a birefringent optical element for changing the light path of the incident light in accordance with the polarization state thereof. The boundary position between the switching areas of the first and second polarization states moves in sync with the boundary position between the first and second image data writing areas corresponding to the first and second sub-frame.

A projector includes a liquid crystal light valve to which first image data and second image data are alternately written and a polarization switching device that has a plurality of switching areas and switches a polarization state between a first polarization state and a second polarization state for each of the switching areas. A boundary position between a switching area that provides the first polarization state and a switching area that provides the second polarization state moves in synchronization with a boundary position between an area where the first image data is written and an area where the second image data is written.

Projector that switches between polarization states

A projector includes an illumination optical system, a light modulation element, and a projection optical system. The illumination optical system includes a first light source section, a plurality of second light source sections, and an optical axis conversion element. The optical axis conversion element emits the light beam, which is input from the first light source section, so that an exit optical axis of the light beam approximately matches with an illumination optical axis, and emits the light beams, which are respectively input from the plurality of second light source sections, so that exit optical axes of the light beams intersect the exit optical axis of the light beam from the first light source section between the optical axis conversion element and the light modulation element.

Illumination apparatus, projector, and illumination method

An illumination apparatus includes: a first light source section; a plurality of second light source sections; and an optical axis conversion element which allows a light incident from the first light source section to emit in such a way that an exiting optical axis of the light approximately coincides with an illumination optical axis, and allows lights incident from the plurality of second light source sections to emit in such a way that exiting optical axes of the lights become approximately parallel to the illumination optical axis in positions close to the illumination optical axis.

An illumination apparatus includes first and second light source units. An optical axis converting element has a first surface that reflects a luminous flux emitted from the first light source unit and a second surface that reflects a luminous flux emitted from the second light source unit and is configured to reflect respective luminous fluxes emitted from the respective light source units in substantially one direction. Each of the luminous fluxes entering the optical axis converting element has different dimensions in two directions orthogonal to each other in a plane orthogonal to an emission axis of the each light source unit. The optical axis converting element is arranged such that a cross-sectional shape of the luminous flux entering each optical axis converting element taken along the surface has a short side direction in the same direction as the direction of arrangement of the first and second surfaces.
