Method, device and treatment system for sealing living tissue using high frequency electrical energy provided to the living tissue by an end effector of a treatment instrument applies N cycles (N=natural number from 1 to 5, inclusive) of electrical energy to the living tissue by increasing, in each cycle, an amount of the high frequency electrical energy provided to the living tissue until the impedance of the living tissue increases to an impedance threshold value for that cycle, after which the amount of high frequency electrical energy is decreased to decrease the impedance of the living tissue by a predetermined value. The cycle repeats, with each subsequent cycle having an impedance threshold value greater than in the prior cycle, and the cycles stop when an N+1-th impedance reaches a impedance stop value. Initial values of impedance can be used to determine parameters of the cycles.

A treatment system includes an energy treatment tool and a power supply device. The energy treatment tool includes respective first and second grasps configured to be coupled with one another and are capable of pivoting with respect to one another so as to grip a treatment target therebetween. A plurality of bipolar electrodes is attached to the respective first and second grasps. The plurality of bipolar electrodes receives a high-frequency current to flow through the treatment target so as to develop a first temperature distribution in the treatment target. A treatment energy source is configured to be coupled to one of the respective first and second grasps and receives electric energy to generate treatment energy different from the high-frequency current and to apply the generated treatment energy to the treatment target so as to develop a second temperature distribution in the treatment target.

A treatment system includes a treatment tool having a heater and bipolar electrodes to grip a treatment target. An energy source apparatus is used to electrically communicate with the treatment tool. The energy output source is configured to output high-frequency electric power to the bipolar electrodes through a first circuit. A high-frequency current flows through the treatment target between the bipolar electrodes. The energy output source is configured to output heater electric power to the heater for generating heat through a second circuit. At least one processor is used to control the energy output source.

A treatment system comprises a treatment tool and an energy source apparatus is used to electrically communicate with the treatment tool. The energy output source is configured to output high-frequency electric power to the bipolar electrodes so as to cause a high-frequency current to flow through a treatment target between the bipolar electrodes. The processor detects a parameter related to the heater from the heater in the output control process based on the target temperature. The processor sets a threshold value used to determine to stop or to lower the output to the bipolar electrodes while the treatment target is being modified by the high-frequency current applied thereto based on the detected parameter.

The disclosed technology is directed to a treatment tool having a blade configured to engage with a treatment target. A heater is configured to be spaced apart from the blade. A first thermally conductive member is sandwiched between the blade and the heater so as to transmit heat to the blade. The first thermally conductive member includes respective first and second portions each of which is disposed on respective distal-end and proximal-end sides in longitudinal directions of the blade for thermally conducting a different prescribed quantity of heat per unit time from each of the respective first and second portions to the blade via the heater. The first thermally conductive member includes a first thermal conductivity anisotropy that is higher in longitudinal directions of the blade and is lower in widthwise directions transverse to the longitudinal directions.

A processor of an electric power source device exercises control over a power output before a control switching time point based on a value related to initial impedance, and determines the control switching time point upon detecting that a value related to impedance of a living tissue is at a minimum. A control device for use with a treatment tool that includes a heating element to apply heat to a treatment target. The control device comprises a processor configured to set a target temperature for the heating element and to control the heating element so that temperature of the heating element follows the target temperature. The processor is configured to switch the control of the heating element from a first phase to a second phase. A first followability of the temperature of the heating element in the first phase is higher than a second followability of the temperature in the second phase. The processor is configured to terminate the controlling of following the temperature of the heating element to the target temperature when a parameter is beyond a predetermined range wherein the parameter being defined as a fluctuation between the temperature of the heating element and the target temperature.

A therapeutic treatment system includes a holding section configured to hold a biological tissue, electrodes provided in the holding section and capable of outputting first high-frequency energy for sealing the biological tissue at a first sealing temperature and second high-frequency energy for dissecting the biological tissue at a first dissection temperature higher than the first sealing temperature, electrodes provided in the holding section and capable of outputting first thermal energy for sealing the biological tissue at a second sealing temperature higher than the first sealing temperature and second thermal energy for dissecting the biological tissue at a second dissection temperature lower than the first dissection temperature and higher than the second sealing temperature, and a control section configured to control temperature of each of the electrodes to output the second thermal energy after the output of the first high-frequency energy.
