An apparatus including a reagent cartridge and a reaction chamber, the reagent cartridge having a reagent capsule removably positioned therein for dispensing of a reagent onto the reaction chamber. A system including a linearly translatable mounting assembly having a plurality of mounting stations dimensioned to receive at least one fluid dispensing cartridge, a linearly translatable bulk reagent dispensing assembly having a plurality of bulk reagent dispensing nozzles coupled thereto and a receiving assembly positioned beneath the mounting assembly and the bulk reagent dispensing assembly, the receiving assembly including a plurality of reaction stations. A method including determining an inventory of an automated sample processing system, downloading a processing protocol from a central controller to the automated sample processing system, operating the automated sample processing system based on the processing protocol and independently of the central controller and dispensing a reagent from the automated sample processing system.

Automated staining system and reaction chamber

An apparatus including a fluid reservoir and a compressible metering chamber including a first end coupled to the fluid reservoir and a second end. The apparatus further including a valve coupled to the second end of the metering chamber and a nozzle coupled to the valve. A system including linearly translatable cartridge mounting assembly having a plurality of fluid dispensing cartridge mounting stations and a plurality of fluid dispensing cartridges mounted to respective fluid dispensing cartridge mounting stations. The system further including a plurality of compression assemblies coupled to respective fluid dispensing cartridges and a receiving assembly positioned beneath the mounting assembly. A method includes positioning a fluid dispensing cartridge comprising a fluid reservoir and a metering chamber over a sample retaining member, applying a compressive force to the metering chamber to eject a predetermined amount of fluid and removing the compressive force to refill the metering chamber.

Fluid dispensing system

Apparatus for dyeing tissues sampled from a living body for the purpose of observing immunoreaction of the tissues has a dyeing tray with a plurality of plateaus arranged in parallel disposition. A slide is so placed over each plateau that a wedge-shaped gap of capillary dimension is formed between the plateau and the undersurface of the slide to which a sampled tissue is attached. A liquid drip surface and a liquid discharge port are formed at one end of the top surface of each plateau. A liquid delivery port is formed on a side wall of the tray so as to communicate with the liquid discharge port. The liquid delivery port and the drip surface are always exposed. A dyeing liquid or a rinsing liquid is dripped onto the exposed drip surface and spreads into the gap for dyeing the tissue or rinse the relevant parts. After the dyeing or rinsing, the used liquid is sucked and discharged by way of the liquid delivery port. Because of the exposure of the drip surface and the liquid delivery port, the operation is easy and the dyeing tray can also be used for manual dyeing. A bank between the liquid discharge port and the drip surface prevents direct flow of the liquid therebetween.
