A color selection mechanism of a cathode-ray tube is formed in such a manner that a large number of strip-shaped grid elements are stretched across a frame which has a pair of opposed support members and a pair of elastically-providing members fixed between the support members. In this color selection mechanism, the geometrical moment of inertia of each of the support members can be changed stepwise from a central part of each of the support members to each of end parts thereof by changing a ratio of a longitudinal dimension to a lateral dimension of an L-shaped section of each of the pair of support members stepwise. As a result, it becomes possible to increase the rigidity at the central part of the frame of the color selection mechanism and thereby improve the performance of the color selection mechanism of the cathode-ray tube.

A frame for use in a color selection mechanism of a cathode ray tube, the frame having a pair of mutually opposing supporting members that has fixedly mounted thereover a color sorting electrode thin plate and elasticity-imparted members each bridged over the corresponding one ends of the supporting members. The frame has a welding gas degassing vent hole that is formed at a position of the supporting member at which the elasticity-imparted member is welded thereto. As a result of this, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of the problems that, after the assembly of the cathode ray tube, the welding gas, the rustproofing oil, etc. are oozed, shot blast balls remain to exist, etc. It is thereby possible to provide a frame for use in a color selection mechanism of the cathode ray tube wherein any defects are prevented from occurring in the tube, such as deterioration of the characteristics, abnormal discharge, etc.

A color selecting electrode for a color cathode-ray tube, which is capable of optimizing a displacement of the color selecting electrode on a phosphor screen side when the color election mechanism is subjected to a thermal effect. The color selecting electrode includes a frame composed of a pair of opposed supporting members and a pair of elasticity imparting members mounted between the supporting members; a large-number of ribbon-like grid elements stretchingly mounted on the frame; and metal members different in thermal expansion coefficient from the supporting members, the metal members being fixed on the supporting members over the entire lengths thereof.

A color selecting electrode mounting frame of a CRT which eliminates the waste of materials, is easy and inexpensive to process and assemble. The color selecting electrode mounting frame for a CRT comprises a pair of long members of an L-sectional shape having curved surfaces formed at their top edge portions to which two opposing sides of a color selecting electrode are attached and a pair of short members having end portions joined to the two ends of these long members. The long members are obtained by blanking a plate of a fixed width into an arc shape of a predetermined curvature, then forming this into an L-sectional shape and a curvature matching the panel glass surface of the CRT. The two end portions of the short members are processed to match the curvature of the two end portions of the long members. The end portions of the short members are processed by a twisting, crushing, or shaving process.

The present invention provides a color selecting mechanism for a cathode ray tube in which an enough area of an effective screen area of a color selecting electrode can be ensured. A frame (1) is constituted by a pair of opposite long-side frames (3) and a pair of opposite short-side frames (4). A color selecting electrode (2) is stretched over the upper surfaces (3b) of the long-side frames (3). The frame (1) is formed by the integral molding. The end portions of the upper surfaces (3b) side of the long-side frames (3) are formed into a straight line as if they were cut down. The lower surfaces of connection portions between the long-side frames (3) and the short-side frames (4) are disposed on the same plane. The height of the long-side frames (3) from this plane is formed so as to be higher than the height of the short-side frames (4).
