A vacuum casting apparatus includes a molten metal passage for delivering molten metal into a sprue of a casting die encapsulated in a enclosure, a cylindrical stoke for communicating the molten metal passage with a reservoir tank, a stoke connecting member for biasing the stoke to a member on which the molten metal passage is formed, an auxiliary flange positioned around the stoke connecting member and contacting a surface of said enclosure, and a flexible plate member for air tightly closing a space between the stoke connecting member and the auxiliary flange.

Vacuum casting apparatus

A mold comprising a cavity for defining the shape of a casting and a mold body for forming said cavity, comprising: a mold body formed of an ordinary temperature setting resin or thermosetting resin and casting sand, said mold body having a surface layer portion on the surfaces thereof including depressions, said depressions in the surface layer portion being filled up with at least one porous powdered material selected from the group consisting of hydrous magnesium silicate clay mineral, activated carbon and activated alumina, thereby providing the mold body with smooth surfaces whereby said mold generates less amount of material such as gums which cause defective castings during casting since molten metal is restrained from intruding into the walls of said mold.

Mold surface treatment process and mold

A mold surface treatment process comprises: providing a fluidized bed of a treating powder; holding the mold in the fluidized bed to fill up the depressions of the mold surfaces with the treating powder by employing a surface treating member for pushing the treating powder into the depressions; and taking the mold out of the fluidized bed. The mold surface treatment allows to make molten metal less likely penetrate into the walls of mold, and to manufacture a mold which generates less amount of gum causing defects during casting.

A binder for manufacture of a precision casting mold comprising a transparent solution containing an alkyl orthosilicate or an alkyl polysilicate having a polymerization degree of 2 to 10, and an amino-alkoxide of a metal selected from a group consisting of titanium, zirconium, tin and aluminum or a mixture thereof in the mol ratio (Si/N) of 0.01 to 1.0 calculated in terms of the silicon atom contained in the silicate and the basic nitrogen atom contained in the amino-alkoxide. This binder is excellent in preservation stability and workability and does not dissolve the surface of a water-soluble pattern.

Binder for manufacture of precision casting mold

A durable protective tube for a thermocouple having an extended serviceable life is obtained by covering a tubular preform of ceramic material with a refractory coating. The refractory coating is an alternate arrangement of one or more fine refractory layers of fine particulate refractory material having a particle size of 150 mesh to 500 mesh and one or more coarse refractory layers of coarse particulate refractory material having a particle size of 0.1 mm to 2.0 mm. The refractory coating is prepared by alternately applying a slurry of fine refractory particulates in a colloidal silica or ethyl silicate hydrolyzate binder and then coarse refractory particulates on the outer surface of the tubular preform followed by optional sintering.

Thermocouple protective tube

A composite material having a first metallic material as the matrix material and extremely fine particles of diameters of the order of tens to hundreds of angstroms of a second metal dispersed in this metallic matrix material is obtained by rapidly adiabatically cooling vapor of the second metallic material through a nozzle, and squirting a jet of fine particles produced thereby into a molten mass of the first material. Optionally, inert gas may be squirted through the nozzle along with the vapor of the second metallic material.
