An air bag cover and manufacturing method thereof wherein the air bag cover comprises a core member which can be formed by injection molding, and a decorative sheet disposed on the surface of the core member. The decorative sheet includes at least two layers, an outer layer and a barrier layer disposed on a back side of the outer layer to protect the outer layer when the core member is injection molded. The core member is made of thermoplastic elastomer which can be thermally fused to the barrier layer. A breakable portion is provided in the barrier layer and core member.

An automobile trunk lid having an air spoiler on its upper surface, both being made of a fiber-reinforced plastic and integrally molded in one piece. Since such a trunk lid with an integral air spoiler has no joint therebetween, it has an improved decorative effect and is free from the entry of dust and wax into a joint.

A polyurethane material for decorative parts is disclosed which is a tow-liquid type material comprising a polyol component and an isocyanate component and having a stabilizer incorporated in the polyol component. The stabilizer is a ternary system of a specific hindered amine type ultraviolet stabilizer, a specific hindered phenol type antioxidant, and a specific benzotriazole type ultraviolet absorbent or acrylontrile type ultraviolet absorbent. A transparent synthetic resin part formed by potting this polyurethane material on the upper surface of a base excels in weatherability and lightfastness. Thus, the present invention provides decorative parts which retain good appearance for a long time.

A boot for an automobile comprises two terminal annular parts and a barrel part intervening between the two terminal annular parts. This boot is obtained by injection molding a flexible PVC material. The flexible PVC material of one type (I) is composed of a polymer component and a plasticizer, which polymer component is obtained by blending high polymerization degree and low polymerization degree PVC's respectively having an average polymerization degree in specific ranges, with the mixing ratio of the two PVC's being in a specific range. The flexible PVC material of the other type (II) is composed of a polymer component and a plasticizer, which polymer component is obtained by blending a cross-linked resin having a non-gel component average polymerization degree and a cross-linking degree in respectively specific ranges with a non-cross-linked resin having an average polymerization degree in a specific range, with the mixing ratio of the two PVC's in a fixed range. The boot formed of the material of Group I or II incurs no layer separation even after a heat resisting test and induces no bleeding even after a light resisting test. The boot formed of the material of Group II acquires delustered appearance even when the metal die has not been treated by honing in advance.

A steering wheel is described, which comprises a core that is covered with a synthetic resin covering material which is overlaid with a coating film thereon, wherein said covering material is formed using an injection molding method by a resin composition that comprises 100 parts by weight of a polyvinyl chloride resin, 100 to 200 parts by weight of a phthalic acid ester based plasticizer represented by formula (I) and 10 to 40 parts by weight of an acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each an alkyl group, provided that when the total number of mols of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is 100 mol, a monomethyloctyl group is present in an amount of 10 to 60 mols, while a dimethylheptyl group is present in an amount of 30 to 70 mols.

There is provided a thermoplastic olefin elastomer of polyblend composed of 30 to 70 wt % of ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer (EPDM), 10 to 30 wt % of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), and 20 to 50 wt % of polypropylene (PP). The EPDM is specified by the Mooney viscosity, propylene content, and third component. The EVA is specified by the VA content and number-average molecular weight. The PP is specified by the number-average molecular weight. This elastomer is suitable for use as a raw material for automotive exterior trim such as side molding, bumper, and mud guard which are produced by injection molding. The elastomer also affords molded items having a good matte-finished appearance. The polyblend obviates the process for partial crosslinking which was necessary for the preparation of conventional elastomer for injection molding.

Thermoplastic olefin elastomer

A trim strip is produced by extrusion coating a metallic insert with a vinyl chloride resin material through the medium of an acrylic resin type adhesive agent. The vinyl chloride resin material has the resin component thereof formed of 100 parts by weight of straight resin having an average polymerization degree, P, in the range of 1,000 to 3,000 and 15 to 50 parts by weight of polymethyl methacrylate having an average molecular weight, M, in the range of 1,000,000 to 4,000,000. The trim strip, therefore, produces high adhesive strength between the metallic insert and the vinyl chloride resin layer, enjoys satisfactory extrusibility, and entails substantially no formation of fisheyes in the coating of the produced trim strip.

A polyvinyl chloride composition comprising polyvinyl chloride having dispersed therein platelet aluminum powders, characterized in that the aluminum powders have a diameter of at least 10.mu. and are used in an amount of 0.2-10 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the polyvinyl chloride. This composition affords by molding a weather-resisting resinous molded article of metallic luster in appearance.

A steering wheel is disclosed, which is produced by injection molding a resin composition comprising (i) a crosslinked vinyl chloride polymer having a gel fraction of at least 20% and a non-gelled portion having an average polymerization degree of from 2000 to 3000, (ii) a non-crosslinked vinyl chloride homopolymer having an average polymerization degree of from 800 to 1000, and (iii) a liquid plasticizer, wherein the weight ratio of polymer component (i) to polymer component (ii) is from 50/50 to 80/20 and (iii) the amount of liquid plasticizer is from 70 to 130 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the total amount of the two polymers (i) and (ii). The steering wheel has excellent properties with respect to uniformity in matte surface, wear resistance and lightfastness.

A receiving case for receiving a gas bag is formed of a side wall portion secured to a fixed member and a lid surface portion thinner than the side wall portion by the use of a material having a comparatively high hardness and a ductility. Further, the lid surface portion is formed with fragile portions contiguous to one another. At the inflation of the gas bag, the receiving case for the gas bag is prevented from scattering in the form of broken pieces, and the gas bag is prevented from being damaged by a sharp edge otherwise arising at the fracture surface of the receiving case.
