An internal combustion engine (E) includes a crankshaft ( ), and a bearing cap ( ) supporting the crankshaft ( ) for rotation. Permanent magnets ( ) serving as magnetic field creating members are attached to the balance weights (W to W ) formed integrally with the webs (W to W ) of the crankshaft ( ). Coils ( ) are attached to the bearing cap bodies (A to A ) of the bearing cap ( ). The permanent magnets ( ) and the coils ( ) form electromechanical transducers (M to M ). A small gap can be formed and maintained between the permanent magnets ( ) and the corresponding coils ( ) with reliability without entailing substantial increase in the size of the internal combustion engine. The electromechanical transducers (M to M )are controlled according to the operating mode of the internal combustion engine so as to serve as electric motors or generators.

An electric double layer capacitor having an electrode rolled body contained in an outer packaging can. The electrode rolled body includes a positive electrode plate having a positive electrode foil, on both sides of which an active substance is applied, a negative electrode plate having a negative electrode foil, on both sides which the active substance is applied, and a separator interposed between these electrode plates, and is obtained by winding the above parts. The negative electrode foil is electrically connected directly to a bottom of the outer packaging can so that heat generated in an interior of the electric double layer capacitor is efficiently transferred to the outer packaging can from the negative electrode foil. The negative electrode foil has a greater thickness than that of the positive electrode foil, which is not electrically connected to the outer packaging can, so that heat quantity transferred is made large.

To enhance the bondability or the sealability between an opening shield plate and a capacitor case and between a resin made opening shield member and an aluminum terminal, and to effectively suppress a leakage of electrolyte liquid from these interfaces, an opening shield plate including a resin made opening shield member bonded to an outer circumference of an aluminum terminal and an aluminum made opening shield member bonded to said resin made opening shield member, wherein said shield resin made opening shield member is made of PFA resin, and said aluminum made opening shield member is welded to a capacitor case.

An electrochemical capacitor has a pair of positive and negative electrode elements each having a solid electrode disposed on a surface of a current collector. The positive and negative electrode elements are disposed in confronting relation to each other with a separator interposed therebetween. The positive and negative electrode elements, together with an electrolytic solution, are housed in the casing. The solid electrode of the negative electrode element is made of a lithium vanadium oxide and an electrically conductive filler, and the solid electrode of the positive electrode element is made of activated carbon.

Electrochemical capacitor

An electric double-layer capacitor includes a plurality of electrode elements each having a current collector, a polarized electrode disposed on a surface thereof, and a strip-like current collecting lead extending from an end of the current collector. The electrode elements are stacked as alternately belonging to respective polarities, and the current collecting leads of the electrode elements are stacked into lead assemblies of the respective polarities. A separator is interposed between the stacked electrode elements, and the lead assemblies are connected respectively to electrode terminals. The lead assemblies of respective polarities serve as respective connectors connected to the electrode terminals. Each of the connectors has a flat joint region as at least a portion thereof. The current collecting leads of each of the lead assemblies are integrally joined to each other by the flat joint region by ultrasonic welding before the connector is connected to the electrode terminal. The connectors are joined to the electrode terminals, respectively, through the respective joint region by electron beam welding or laser beam welding.

Electric double-layar capacitor

A control system for a hybrid vehicle includes an internal combustion engine, a drive shaft driven by the engine, a motor having an assisting function of driving the drive shaft by operating on electrical energy and a regenerating function of converting kinetic energy of the drive shaft to electrical energy, and an electrical storage device for supplying electrical energy to the motor and for storing electrical energy output from the motor. An amount of remaining charge in the electrical storage device is detected. A driver demanded output of the engine is calculated based on operating conditions of the engine. Running resistance of the hybrid vehicle is calculated based on running conditions of the hybrid vehicle. A required extra output of the engine is calculated based on a relationship between the driver demanded output of the engine and the running resistance of the hybrid vehicle. A desired output of the motor is calculated based on the extra required output of the engine. An operating mode of the motor is determined based on the amount of remaining charge in the electrical storage device and the desired output of the motor. An output from the motor is controlled based on the operating mode of the motor and the desired output of the motor.

Control system for hybrid vehicles

Improved accuracy and response of an EEGR valve (60) are obtained by novel constructional features of an upper stator member (194), a lower stator member (174), a bearing guide member (140), and a shell (64), and various inter-relationships between them for improved concentricity of parts, stable and accurate positioning of parts relative to each other, and better resistance to muddy water intrusion at an ambient air space (76) that provides for ambient air to pass through for cooling the valve. A lower stator member (174) has a through-hole (184) to which a bearing member (140) that guides a pintle shaft (114) is concentrically disposed. A frusto-conical surface (182) extends from through-hole (184) to the ambient air space (76).

Electric actuated exhaust gas recirculation valve

An electric double-layer capacitor has an elongate separator impregnated with an electrolytic solution and folded alternately in different directions into folded layers of a predetermined length, and a plurality of stacked electrode plates each disposed between adjacent two of the folded layers of the separator. The electrode plates have opposite polarities confronting each other through the folded layers of the separator. A plurality of flexible collectors are connected to respective ends of the electrode plates and extend from between the folded layers of the separator. The flexible collectors of each of the polarities are bundled in a direction parallel to the electrode plates on one side of the electrode plates and disposed at an outermost layer of the electrode plates with respect to a direction in which the electrode plates are stacked.

Electric double-layer capacitor and capacitor device

An ignition timing control system for an internal combustion engine that estimates the octane number of the fuel being used based on the state of engine combustion knocking and controls the ignition timing to a value not exceeding the knocking limit. The basic ignition timing is set along the knocking limit of fuel having least octane number and the maximum advance amount is set between the knocking limit and the second knocking limit of fuel having maximum octane number. Octane number is estimated from the occurrence of knocking. On the other hand, upper limit of the estimated octane number is set based on the MBT of the engine such that the estimated octane number is limited with the upper limit. Advance rate is determined based on the estimated octane number and is multiplied to the maximum advance amount to determine an ignition timing correction amount. The ignition timing is finally determined from the basic ignition timing and the ignition timing correction amount. A learning control is conducted for the octane number estimated and the estimated octane number is limited within the learned value.

A power transmitting mechanism for use in a hybrid vehicle includes first and second continuously variable transmissions connected to an output shaft of a vehicle's engine. The first continuously variable transmission causes left and right wheels to rotate via a starting clutch, differential gear and vehicle's axle. The second continuously variable transmission drives a generator/motor and also drives pulleys that are provided for actuating auxiliaries such as an air-conditioning compressor and power-steering compressor. In acceleration of the vehicle, the generator/motor operates as an electro motor so that the axle can be driven by a combination of the output power of the engine and generator/motor. In deceleration of the vehicle, the generator/motor operates as a power generator so as to effectively collect, from the axle, decreasing energy of the vehicle. In this case, a transmission ratio of the second continuously variable transmission can be chosen to be a substantial reciprocal of a transmission ratio of the first continuously variable transmission such that the generator/motor achieves a highest possible operating efficiency. As a result, irrespective of variations in the number of rotations of the engine, the generator/motor can operate efficiently, which allows the engine, generator/motor and auxiliaries to operate in respective optimum conditions.

Power transmitting apparatus for a hybrid vehicle

An apparatus for controlling a motor vehicle equipped with a lean-burn engine and an electric motor coupled to an output shaft of the lean-burn engine has an engine controller, a combustion-pressure variation detector, and a motor controller. The engine controller controls the lean-burn engine to operate in a lean range of air-fuel ratios. The combustion-pressure variation detector detects a variation in a combustion pressure of the lean-burn engine controlled by the engine controller. The motor controller controls the electric motor to apply a force to the output shaft of the lean-burn engine for suppressing a variation caused in a torque produced by the lean-burn engine based on the variation in the combustion pressure as detected by the combustion-pressure variation detector means if the variation in the combustion pressure is in excess of a predetermined value.

Improvements in a head (44) of a pintle (38) and associated valve seat (34) of an EGR valve (10) for providing a desired geometric relationship between respective tapered surfaces (36c, 104) that close against each other and for reducing tendency for carbon build-up. A blind hole (108) extends centrally axially inward from the lower end face (107) of the pintle head, reducing the mass, and hence thermal inertia, but without affecting the desired geometric relationship of the seat to the pintle head.
