A polishing apparatus includes a rotatable platen, a first driving device for causing the rotatable platen to rotate, a polishing head provided above the platen rotatably and holding a substrate in a manner such that the substrate faces the platen, a second driving device for causing the polishing head to rotate, an urging device for urging the substrate on the polishing head against the platen, a slurry feeding system for feeding a slurry to the platen, and a cleaning system for supplying a cleaning liquid containing an acid that dissolves a manganese oxide, to the polishing head. The cleaning system includes a nozzle provided in the polishing head for spraying the cleaning liquid to the platen.

A hierarchical signal processing apparatus includes aggregates having logic operation portions. The apparatus compares a final output signal from a logic operation portion in a final aggregate with a teaching signal, and generates an error signal by taking a signal which exists only in the teaching signal as a positive error signal, and taking a signal which exists only in said final output signal as a negative error signal. An error signal generating portion in the apparatus generates a positive error signal of a logic operating portion within a certain aggregate which supplies one or more output signals thereof to said logic operation means of another aggregate based on one or more logic operations on the excitatory weight function signal of said weight function signal, the positive error signal, the inhibitory weight function signal of said weight function signal and the negative error signal, and also generates a negative error signal of said logic operation means within said certain aggregate which supplies one or more output signals thereof to said logic operation means of said other aggregate based on one or more logic operations on the inhibitory weight function signal of said weight function signal, the positive error signal of said other aggregate, the excitatory weight function signal of said weight function signal and the negative error signal.

A PLL circuit comprising a phase comparator unit which forms a differentiation signal based upon both edges of an external signal, outputs an early pulse only during a period in which the differentiation signal is overlapped on a period from the leading edge to the trailing edge of a reference signal, and outputs a late pulse only during a period in which the differentiation signal is overlapped on a period from the trailing edge to the leading edge thereof, a charge pump unit which calculates and compares the amounts of integration of the early pulse and the late pulse, lowers the output voltage when the amount of the late pulse is larger than the amount of the early pulse and raises the output voltage when it is smaller, and a VCO which outputs a corrected reference signal of which the frequency decreases or increases accompanying the increase or decrease in the output voltage of the charge pump unit, wherein the VCO is controlled by the output voltage of the charge pump unit and by the early pulse and the late pulse, and works to raise the oscillation frequency when the late pulse is longer than the early pulse and to lower the oscillation frequency when it is shorter.

Ink jet recording head assembly

A charge-pump circuit for controlling a voltage controlled oscillator by converting a phase difference between two input signals, which never become low at the same time, into a voltage. The charge-pump circuit includes first and second feeder circuits, made of bipolar transistors, outputting current in accordance with the input signals; a capacitor circuit having first, second, and third capacitors, and the first and the second or the first and the third capacitors are charged by the output current from the first or the second feeder circuit; and a differential amplifying circuit amplifying the voltage between the ends of the first capacitor to a predetermined voltage for output. The differential amplifying circuit operates to draw the same leakage current from the second and the third capacitors when the first capacitor is not being charged. The gap is controlled by controlling the current supplied to the magnet units in response to gap sensors. The rails include rail gaps where the ends of two rail elements abut, and rail gap sensors are arranged to detect the rail gap. Thus, current supplied to one of the magnet units is disabled when the rail gap is detected, and the current to be supplied to the associated magnet unit is stopped. A monostable multivibrating circuit includes: a time constant setting circuit responsive to an input pulse signal, for outputting at least one signal having a time constant different from that of the input pulse signal; and an emitter-coupled logic circuit including a first pair of transistors, one base receiving the input pulse signal and another base receiving a first reference signal, and a second pair of transistors, one base receiving an output signal of the time constant setting circuit and another base receiving a second reference signal. The monostable multivibrating circuit outputs a one-shot pulse defined by a pulse starting time corresponding to a change in level of the one base input of the first pair of transistors and a pulse stopping time corresponding to a change in level of the one base input of the second pair of transistors. The one-shot pulse presents 'H' level only when the base input of the first pair of transistors is at 'L' level and the one base input of the second pair of transistors is at 'H' level. By this constitution, it is possible to determine the number of stages of circuits regardless of the duration of the one-shot pulse and thus facilitate a standardization of the circuit designing. Also, it is possible to reduce an occupation area thereof and decrease a power dissipation thereby.
