An object is to provide a medical device having excellent antithrombotic and sliding characteristics, which can exert a cell adhesion inhibitory effect. A medical device comprising: a substrate capable of forming hydroxyl groups; and a biocompatible material layer laminated on the substrate at an appropriate position, wherein the hydroxyl groups are formed on a surface of the substrate at least at a required position by a surface treatment, while the biocompatible material layer is formed from a polymer containing phosphorylcholine groups, and wherein the substrate and the biocompatible material layer are joined via a binder layer formed from silica being covalently bonded with the hydroxyl groups and the biocompatible material, respectively.

Medical device and method for producing the same

The object of the present invention is to provide a sliding member, a prosthesis and a method of producing the sliding member, which can suppress production of abrasive wear debris by suppressing friction of the sliding section, and also can maintain satisfactory mechanical characteristics in vivo. A sliding member comprising: a substratecapable of forming hydroxyl groups; and a biocompatible material layerlaminated on appropriate sections of the substrate, wherein hydroxyl groups are formed on at least a required section of a surface of the substrateby surface treating to form a surface-treated layer, while the biocompatible material layeris formed from a polymer containing phosphorylcholine groups, and wherein the substrateand the biocompatible material layerare joined via a binder layerformed from silica being covalently bonded with the hydroxyl groups and the biocompatible material, respectively.

The present invention provides a bearing material that is excellent in durability and is capable of maintaining wear resistance over a long period of time. The bearing material of the present invention is a high wear-resistance bearing materialfor being used under a humid environment comprising: a base bodymade of a polymer material having a methylene group; and a polymer layercovering a bearing surfaceof the substrate, the polymer layercomprising polymer chains which have a phosphorylcholine group and are grafted from the bearing surface, wherein a phosphoric index of the sliding surfacewhich is calculated by dividing a peak intensity of phosphate group in an infrared spectrum measured on the sliding surface by a peak intensity of the methylene group therein is not less than 0.28.

High wear-resistant bearing material and artificial joint replacement using the same

The object of the present invention is to provide a joint prosthesis, bearing material and a production method thereof, which suppresses wear in a sliding section and suppresses the production of abrasive powder even during repeated daily operation. To achieve the object, there is provided a biomaterial comprising: a substrate made of metal, alloy or ceramic; and a biocompatible material layer laminated on the substrate, wherein hydroxyl groups are formed on the substrate by surface-treating, while the biocompatible material layer comprises a polymer containing phosphorylcholine groups, the substrate and the biocompatible material layer are bound via a binder layer which is combined with the hydroxyl groups of the substrate and with the biocompatible material layer.

Biomaterial, joint prosthesis using the biomaterial and method of producing the same

An artificial joint member made of a polymeric material including a portion made of a polymeric substance has a sliding surface composed of a polymer having phosphoryl choline groups. With such an arrangement, the artificial joint member is provided with a sliding part capable of keeping a satisfactory lubricating state for a long time.
