To improve the productivity of the cold rolling facility by providing the cold rolling facility with a strip wiper free of dust and foreign matters suitable for high-speed rolling. The wiping ability was greatly improved by floating and supporting the wiper roll by the static pressure bearing of air of two-pocket type, and by variably adjusting the load range of the floating force in response to the plate width. At high-speed rolling exceeding 700 m/min which was incapable with the conventional roll wiper or tube wiper, the productivity of the cold rolling facility and the surface quality of the strip were greatly improved by applying to the cold rolling facility the wiping device whose wiping ability is equal to or better than the tube wiper at low speeds, and its effect is very large.

Strip wiper device, strip wiping method, rolling mill and rolling method

The invention intends to always maintain a distance between a hydrostatic pressure bearing and a roll even in a transient state before and after the start of rolling, thereby sufficiently and surely preventing damage of those components upon contact with each other, and to prevent a lowering of yield. In a plate rolling mill comprising upper and lower work rolls, and hydrostatic pressure bearings for supporting barrel portions of idler rolls in a non-contact manner with fluid pressure substantially along the horizontal direction, the idler rolls supporting the work rolls substantially along the horizontal direction, gap restraining rolls are provided to prevent gaps between the hydrostatic pressure bearings and the idler rolls from becoming lower than a predetermined value.

Plate rolling mill

In a molten metal plating apparatus all surfaces of a sinking roller and a supporting roller to be in contact with a molten metal are coated with iron silicide films. A bearing comprises a holder made of a heat resistant steel and lined with a carbon-carbon fiber complex material. A surface of the holder is coated with an Fe,Si film similar to the sinking roller. There is an Fe,Si film on a surface of a shaft portion, and the Fe,Si is in contact with and slides on the carbon-carbon fiber complex material.

Molten metal plating apparatus

A bonding apparatus for bonding metal plates, includes an overlapping mechanism for overlapping end portions of the metal plates, at least two supports for supporting the overlapped portion of the metal plates at one side of the metal plates, and a shearing blade disposed opposite the supports so as to sandwich the overlapped portion of the metal plates therebetween, wherein a moving mechanism is provided for relatively moving at least one of the shearing blade and the supports so as to press the shearing blade into the overlapped portion of the metal plates disposed between the supports and the shearing glade. A method for bonding is characterized by bonding metal plates by using the above apparatus.

Method of bonding metal plates, apparatus therefor and hot strip mill

A cluster type rolling mill comprises a pair of work rolls, intermediate rolls, backing rolls, backing roll chock movable in the up and down directions, intermediate roll chocks held by the backing roll chocks work roll chocks held by the intermediate roll chocks hydraulic cylinders for shifting the intermediate rolls in the axial direction and hydraulic cylinders for applying bending force to the intermediate rolls and work rolls.

Cluster type rolling mill and rolling method

There are provided a rolling machine and a rolling method in which the strip crown and shape control capability for a narrow-width strip is improved, so that the adequate strip crown and shape control capability for strips of various widths from a narrow width to a larger width can be secured. In the rolling machine, a pair of upper and lower working rolls are supported respectively by a pair of upper and lower intermediate rolls, and the intermediate rolls are supported respectively by a pair of upper and lower reinforcing rolls. The reinforcing rolls have an effective barrel length which is smaller than an effective barrel length of the working rolls and the intermediate rolls, and is larger than a width of a minimum-width strip to be rolled. The intermediate rolls are arranged in such a manner that their axes, disposed respectively in substantially horizontal planes, cross each other, and are crossed relative to the working rolls and the reinforcing rolls. The maximum cross angle of the intermediate rolls are increased and decreased in accordance with the width of the strip.

Rolling machine and rolling method

A work roll crossing type rolling mill has back-up rolls arranged in such a manner that their axes are not inclined in a horizontal plane. Work rolls are constructed in such a manner that their axes can be inclined in a horizontal plane relative to the backup rolls such that the axes of the work rolls cross the axes of the back-up rolls and such that the axes of the work rolls cross each other. A lubricant supply device is provided for supplying a lubricant between each work roll and each back-up roll combination to greatly reduce the thrust exerted to the work rolls, whereby the rolling mill is given an excellent ability of controlling the crown of the material to be rolled.

Rolling mill, hot rolling system, rolling method and rolling mill

To provide a rolling mill in which work rolls being supported horizontally by static pressure bearings wherein, even under the action of an excessive horizontal force, preventing contact between the work rolls and the static pressure bearings to ensure the production of a strip product free of flaw and superior in its surface quality. Work rolls are supported by static pressure bearings through idler rolls. The amount of offset of the work rolls are changed respectively by moving devices through static pressure bearings. Further, pushing cylinders generate a certain force through the static pressure bearings to bear the force provided from the moving devices.

Rolling mill and rolling method

A bonding apparatus for bonding metal plates, includes an overlapping mechanism for overlapping end portions of the metal plates, at least two supports for supporting the overlapped portion of the metal plates at one side of the metal plates, and a shearing blade disposed opposite the supports so as to sandwich the overlapped portion of the metal plates therebetween, wherein a mechanism is provided for moving relatively moving at least one of the shearing blade and the supports so as to press the shearing blade into the overlapped portion of the metal plates disposed between the supports and the shearing blade. A method for bonding is characterized by bonding metal plates by using the above apparatus.

A work roll cross type rolling mill comprises a pair of work rolls and a pair of back-up rolls for backing up the work rolls. The back-up rolls are so arranged that their axes can be inclined within horizontal planes only to three or four specific angular positions. The work rolls are allowed to be inclined within horizontal planes with respect to the back-up rolls such that the axes of the work rolls cross the axes of the associated back-up rolls and cross each other. The nip between each the work roll and the associated back-up roll is lubricated so as to reduce axial thrust generated therebetween due to the crossing of the rolls. The cross angle between the work rolls is set and controlled during rolling operation only when the roll peripheral speed or the rolling speed is 50 m/min or higher. Advantages of work roll cross type rolling mill are fully extended to realize stable rolling without trouble so as to ensure high quality of the rolled product while achieving higher rate of operation of the mill with facilitated operation.

Rolling mill and method of using the same

In a tandem mill system, at least one first type rolling mill is arranged in the upstream side and at least one second type rolling mill is arranged in the downstream side. The first type rolling mill is of the so-called work roll crossing mill in which a pair of work rolls are inclined with respect to a pair of back-up rolls supporting the work rolls and simultaneously crossed each other in a horizontal plane to control transverse thickness distribution of a strip. The second type rolling mill is of the so-called HC mill which controls the strip crown and shape by a combination of axial movement of intermediate rolls and work roll bending. Such an arrangement makes it possible to increase a capability of controlling the strip crown and shape, particularly, a capability of correcting the quarter buckle, and eliminate a fear of causing scratches on the strip and roll surfaces, with the result of improved production efficiency. Plural lines of lubricant supply device are also provided to stop supply of a lubricant immediately before biting of the strip into the work roll crossing mill and start the supply again after the biting. A system of lubricating the work roll crossing mill is thereby improved.

Tandem mill system and work roll crossing mill

A multi-high rolling mill is disclosed which includes an upper work roll backed by an intermediate roll and a backup roll and a lower work roll backed up by a single backup roll. Control benders are provided on each of the intermediate roll and the upper and lower work rolls. In order to optimize the control of the rolling operation for skinpass rolling and the like, the control benders for the upper work roll and the intermediate backup roll are controlled so as to effect a control of the crown sheet over the entire width of the material being rolled, while the control bender for the lower work roll controls the sheet crown of the rolled material at the lateral side end portions, resulting in a composite control substantially improving the sheet quality and preventing edge wrinkles in the material being rolled. In the disclosed embodiments, the intermediate roll has a larger drum length than a predetermined maximum sheet width of rolled material to be rolled by the work roll. The shape of sheet material is sensed by a shape detector which provides a signal to a controller which actuates the roll benders.

Five-high rolling mill

A lubricant is supplied from headers of lubricant supply units onto surfaces of back-up rolls at locations spaced from contact positions between a pair of work rolls and a pair of back-up rolls. The headers each include a lubricant spray nozzle for spraying the lubricant under a pressure not lower than 3 kg/cm.sup.2, a header cover for confining the lubricant sprayed from the lubricant spray nozzle, an oil return line for returning the surplus lubricant, and seal members made of flexible material such as rubber. The work rolls are provided with water wiping plates, and the back-up rolls are also provided with water wiping plates. In a work rolls crossing type mill thus arranged, water films of cooling water deposited on the roll surfaces are removed to prevent the cooling water from mixing into the lubricant. Even if the water films are not totally removed, it is possible to surely plate out the lubricant for reliably lubricating between the work rolls and the back-up rolls. Raw lubricant oil of the lubricant meets the following requirements; (a) the coefficient of friction between said work rolls and said back-up rolls is in the range of 0.04 to 0.1, (b) the viscosity is not larger than 80 Cst. at 40.degree. C., (c) mineral oil and synthetic ester not less than 5% are contained as base oil, (d) a fatty acid in the range of 0.03 to 0.5% is contained as an oiliness enhancer, (e) an extreme pressure additive not less than 0.1% is contained, and preferably, (f) a surface active agent not larger than 0.5% is contained as emulsifier.
